9 players out of contract in the summer. Out of curiosity, Hits, but who are the 9 players? I can only find 8 on transfermarkt listed as June 2020: Shodipo, Owens, BOS, Manning, Rangel, Hall, Cameron, and Pugh. AFAIK Shodipo has already signed a new contract until 2022 with another year option, and I think we have 1 year options on all of the rest except Hall and Rangel, and those two probably won´t need much convincing to sign an extension, if we need them.

So if BOS won’t sign contract would people prefer to see him for one more season then let him go for nothing? A gamble. Worth it if he helped us get promoted and if he did he might then stay anyway. and if risk backfires and we don’t go up everyone will be content and not moan when he walks out for nothing?? Remember the tears when we tried same thing with Austin!!

Remember the tears when we tried same thing with Austin!! Like I said, a gamble - one I would take if it looked like we could compete for promotion, but I'm in no doubt that the club will cash in. I don't think we will get the sort of money everyone thinks we will for Eze and BOS and I think we will slot Chair and maybe Shodipo in and hope for the best. If they spend any of the money it will only be on a cheap striker.

I dont think the club will gamble potentially £10mil (what’s he worth might be less then that) and neither should they IMO
Realistically we’re not going up next season and only reason fans would say gamble is because it’s not their money they’re gambling with.
To have £10mil walk out the club in the hope of a promotion which is not even 50/50 Bet would be huge step backwards in management of the club. Let’s not forget before Birmingham away BOS was getting mixed reviews and the common comment was he had no end product
If I was owners I would be going all out to tie him down perhaps even giving him touch more then we would like but if he won’t sign I would move him on as if he’s seeing out his last year we won’t be watching the BOS we have last three months (say again three months) we will be watching a player seeing out contract, trying not to get injured so he can secure a move!! Erickson at Spurs springs to mind, last year of contraxtvand shadow of the player he was

Agree on what we will get Al honestly think we rate and value our players as fans well above what others do.

Good player if not signing then sell him and Manning and try to squeeze another year out of Eze. When you talk about gambling with the club selling both and not spending on replacements will see us eventually drop out of this league as we saw it before in the 90's once Ferdinand was sold.

Out of interest who are the 9 out of contract as article don’t mention that at all. Actually thinking having read it it’s pretty positive piece I’m guessing most out of contract will be none playing U23 only not first teamers, I can think of Hall and Rangel (he will sign on I would guess) aside from them who else of note is out of contract For me that’s not wholesale change so he’s spot on I was about to say the same mate. No way are there 9 first teamers out of contract. Off the top of my head we have Rangel, Cameron, Pugh and Hall out of contract. The rest must be the likes of Kakay, Owens, Phillips etc. who have never really had any impact on the first team. I'd speculate we will see Rangel and Cameron not renewed (not cos they are bad players, just getting too old for it and on big wages). I would have said the same for Pugh a few weeks back, but the last few games make me think he might have another year in him at this level. Hopefully Hall signs a new deal (I know he splits opinion but I like him). Unfortunately I think we will struggle to keep BOS and Eze, Manning as well (although I ain't fussed much about that). As such, we are probably looking at a minimum of 5 or 6 in. I suppose it really depends on your idea of "wholesale changes".

The argument for cashing in on BOS is a good one if you consider he's had just half a season fired up. It could just be a purple patch like when we bought Washington. Eze is still very much a project for someone, so I doubt we'll get what our fans think.

Eze is still very much a project for someone, so I doubt we'll get what our fans think. Not even sure it'll be a decision mate. We've triggered a 12 month extension that will see him through to June 2021. If BOS has no intention of signing beyond that then we literally have to sell him. We aren't in a position to be risking losing a player for free that could fetch multiple millions. The same logic goes for Manning and Eze.

I think there is a chance that we will sell one of the tow (BOS & Eze) and use some of that cash to improve contracts for the other two so we at least get a better price for them when we eventually sell. I am sure they would sign extensions or new contracts on improved terms with buyout clauses, promotion bonuses etc.

It may be the case that the players had their extensions triggered to allow their contracts to run into the next set of P&S accounts and have been told that there will be a better offer made then than what could have been offered at the moment. Far too many people looking to have an excuse to have a pop at the club without having a single shred of evidence of what is going on.

Fair point Esox.
And just to be clear, I wasn't digging the club out. I think we need to be pragmatic, we need to stick to our guns in terms of a wage structure the board think is viable and above all else, we need to ensure that we don't let our prize assets run their contracts down and leave for free. If that means that Eze, BOS and Manning all get sold this summer then we as fans will need to take that on the chin!

Agree 1973 we don't need to sell both West do you really want both leave would it not bother you at all It pisses me right off no gens I want them both to stay but I accept they won’t. If we get decent money and part of that is reinvested then that actually fits in with our new business model. I don’t see the point of fighting it as we know how the club intends moving forwards so we need to ensure we fatten the goose (every player) as much as we can and drain it for every penny we can when they move on BOS on current form is superb but that current form is only a matter of months he could just as easily return to his form before where plenty of us said he’s not worth a start. His stock is at its height now and if he/agent are thinking draw this out and refuse to sign then cheerio, thank you for the 3/4months and we will take the cash. He could obviously commit medium/long term that’s the win win but if he’s not willing to do that I honestly don’t see how we can take a chance of promotion and risk millions

We're a selling club because our billionaire owners are happy with us exactly where we are - ie surviving with the eventual hope that the real estate will come good. If miraculously we found ourselves going up, the script would change (in the hope of retaining a slice of the media money for as long as possible). Which is fair enough, it's their club, but it's risky - because it assumes that on a poundland budget we'll always be good enough to survive in this division. Les can just about manage the mouthpiece role. That's his job. 600k a year to spin for the boys, Harry would be impressed. Or are you saying that's just a smokescreen and if they really wanted to spend more then they'd find a way around the rules? yup, that's exactly what I'm saying. The simplest way to get around Championship FFP scenarios is to get promoted, if you manage to stay up for a couple of seasons (or more) you could still absorb the FFP hit when you came back down, the equation is not what it was when we went up. This piece re Villa is interesting
Of course we'd spend if we went up, it doesn't have to be like a lottery winner in Harrods, but I'm telling you now that Les's script would change fast in the that event. That's why he's spinning the board's line. He can just about manage that. There are alternative ways of circumventing FPP (as we've seen elsewhere) but apparently they involved too much brain power for anyone at LR. Otherwise we wouldn't have been so vulnerable re the original, ill advised shopping spree.
The main thing that everyone has to understand is that EPL media rights money has completely distorted the economy of the championship since we last went up. It's insane but it's the world we live in. It also makes being a selling club in the championship a risky proposition. Like I said, their club, their rules.

Not sure I agree with a lot of that Hal. Yeah, there are ways around FFP, but it's risky. If Villa hadn't have gone up when they did, they'd be looking at a points deduction at the moment. Derby and Brum are 2 other sides that have tried to work the system and FFP is taking a good look at both of them.
I genuinely believe the model we've adopted will be the norm at Championship level within a couple of seasons. Some fans may not like this next comment, but I also think where we are currently in the Football League is probably about our natural position. In terms of fan base, revenues etc. we are probably somewhere around the 30th biggest club in the country, where is the shame in just accepting that and being that?!!

So basically gamble Hal.
Repeat all errors and mistakes which we made before (and got us in current dilemma) of spending outside of what we earn in the hope 1) we go up 2) if we go up we stay there long enough not to be impacted by any EFL sanction
Question what if they gamble, spend the money and we don’t go up?? Only ask as only three clubs can go up and half the league is gambling

Hals reasoning is exactly why clubs are taking a punt but only three go up every year so it is a big gamble and one I suspect QPR wouldn't take again.

The truth is that neither you, me or anyone else on this board can speak for what they are going to do; you can have an opinion but you aren't offering your opinion, you are claiming that what you post is fact. You may end up being, for the most part, right but will still only be an opinion as it stands today.

eze will certainly be off in the summer but i imagine we won't sell him for less than 20m given his form this season and all the clubs interested in him. i wouldn't be surprised if we sold manning and bos either in the summer, it all depends on if they're willing to sign a new contract as otherwise we'll just cash in on them.

I would love to Think we get £20mil Cobs for Eze but think tops will be £15mil I think the problem is everyone knows our situation. We probably can't afford to pay the players what they want, they are on short deals and we certainly can't afford to let them go for free. Doesn't make for a particularly good bargaining position. Our best hope if that there are multiple teams interested and hopefully we get a bit of a bidding war going!

Great admirer of Eze, great player, and I am excited whenever he gets the ball, but I suspect he won't do well with the top wankers in the Premiership, entirely because he isn't lightening quick in terms of pace. BOS on the other hand.....

BOS on the other hand..... It would be interesting to see NFL style numbers on his speed over short distances as we have seen him pick up the ball and run past defenders a number of times this season and he didn't appear too slow. His loping style would seem to be deceptive compared to Samuel or Chair but I doubt he is that much slower than those two. I would say that he is starting to tire at the end of games these days but as someone who has played every minute of every game I thnk a bit of slack can be cut, especially if he saves it for when it really matters.
