On bench again today for Walsall. That is helping his development how exactly?

In fairness I don’t think we loaned him out expecting him to be in the bench. What concerns me more is that he’s not considered good enough for Walsall’s 1st team.

Why did we loan him to a team in a relegation fight where the manager is more likely to stick with his trusted players? He should be recalled if they don't want him. He is training with arguably inferior players so what will he learn? He is watching League 1 when he could be on our bench giving us an option and an insight into whether he is good enough for our league. Smyth and Chair are playing, Oteh is Shodipo revisited.....a completely pointless loan. |

His last run out Pompey away he was invisible If he’s struggling get run out at Walsall then if he had stayed prob would have played same role Manning has which is helping nobody |

But if he is not playing, doesn't matter why, what is the point of being there just to train and maybe play with youngster? Can do that here.

It can’t ever be easy judging when to give more game time to certain youngsters, particularly these days when almost everything is scrutinised in such detail with all and sundry giving their opinions. Some will take the step up in their stride, whilst the clear majority are never going to do it here.
But then there are always going to be the players who the coaching staff feel are capable, based upon the improvements they have seen over recent years. The problem the manager will always have is how to justify their selection, over so called established pros. Unless the youngster makes an almost immediate impact, without making exactly the same mistakes as the others do, then the manager is vilified, especially when results go against him.
Whilst it seems to be a perpetual problem here over recent years, no doubt in part due to financial restrictions, I guess the pleasing thing is that there are so many knocking on the door, enabling these discussions to be had. Better to have those options than not.

I think Oteh will go on to have a decent career at this level. He scores plenty for our U23's, and scored plenty in the Spurs youth set-up too. Hopefully he'll find he's feet after a few loan spells.
