Surely better to say nothing, rather than make himself look stupid,oh wait a minute True Bill. If it was his own initiative. But when that journalist writing about Jock footballers, calls him up and asks about our donkey, he can't possibly say: "No comments" Certainly doesn't have to say what has been reported does he?

McCoist, who knows a bit about it, said after one attack ‘if Dykes pulls away there he can come in and attack the ball’ - he’s never in the right place and if Beale can improve him he’ll be a miracle worker.

the true testament for beale will be if he can make dykes into a 3/10 player once a month

Dykes played quite well when Austin was on form. I`m not sure what happened after that. Better in a 4-4-2 or similar maybe.

I think this is half the battle with Dykes. All the attributes but absolutely no clue what he's doing or any genuine strikers instincts. I also think there is an issue with motivation and confidence. Fair play if Beale and his team think they can coach him into a goal scorer. I'd be surprised myself. More likely you can add him to the long list of nearly men, wasted talents and disappointments we've had through the club in recent years.

Genuine question apart from being big lump what attributes does he have or do you think he has?
I’ve seen absolutely nothing at all from him which makes me think he would be good at A or B
I thinking he’s fucking lazy too so I shake head when people and commentators suggest he’s hard working

As for being hard working we’ve said many times the CBs get an afternoon off.

He's shown in patches that he can finish mate. He can put it about when he chooses to. He also takes as good a penalty as any QPR player I can remember.
Problem is that for every game he shows up in, there are 7 or 8 where he's anonymous.
It's same with Scotland. Looked a right handful for his first few performances. Been going steadily backwards since then.

He should be bullying CBs but they actually bully him Tarbs going disagree about him being good finisher as he misses more then he puts away he missed chances in the 6yard box and on the goal line. Thought when he came he would be good pen taker even that’s died off I genuinely hope new manager sorts him out but I really can’t see it

I think he shows good skill in patches, but there's just too far between them. Agree. Lyndon can look a really good player at this level. Think Preston and reading at home. Trouble is he goes through long spells of doing absolutely fuck all and that’s not acceptable. Whether that’s coachable or not remains to be seen but if there’s no improvement in the first part of the season we should be actively looking to fuck him off. We can’t afford passengers

modern strikers don't need to be 20 goal a season players to be key players anymore as we've seen with the likes of firminho and drogba among others. but those types of players excel because they lead the lime, hold the ball up and create space for others whilst also being absolute handfulls for defenders.
dykes doesn't do any of that. i've seen games were chair, a literal toddler, has been more of a presence up top than 6'2 dykes. last season he was lazy at best and often lost the ball yet still got picked every game. if a team is stupid enough to come in for him then we should get rid of him 100%.

Not sure I’m having that reading performance as example. They were winless in 2months getting smashed by everyone they gave snd shipping three goals a game. They were totally demoralised and lacked fight
Need him doing a job and putting in a shift against I side up for it

They were totally demoralised and lacked fight Firstly, I agree Dykes has been shit for us, no argument there at all. And maybe Beale should be given a chance to resurrect his career, but (shit Reading or not) both those goals came from excellent crosses and no one can argue he didn't finish both deliveries well (playing to his strengths). However the standard of crossing last season was pretty poor overall, so his supply line (of which he's dependent on) often left much to be desired.

Hoorah, an (almost) positive post about Dykes!
For me he's blown hot and cold, but shown he CAN do it, just not doing it often enough.
New manager, new methods and new motivations - clean slate for Dykes as far as I'm concerned.
If he bombs, then there's always the January window.
In the meantime, let's be a bit nicer about the lad...

We just need someone with at least some pace and an idea of where to be in the box when we go forward. For me, Dykes is a back-up option rather than the main striker.
