Some 90K wankers liked this. Fools. 'Fans across the world'. Yes. But fans in the stadium matter. 'Legacy fans'. We see you. And want your heads on a plate.

Irony, much? This shit is what's ruined football. Wanker owners and wanker fans facilitated by wankers in the media. God bless the Championship. The most competitive league in the world. An oasis. The last hope.
I pray God we win it next year and then decline to accept promotion.

Bullshit message but at least he did one where are the Glazers and Kroenke? Daniel Levy on the other hand knew full well what the reaction would be and still nothing from him. They should all be banned from domestic cups for 5 years and points deduction for the same period.

How do you find a way to punish / disincentivise these out-of-touch multi-billionaire foreign owners from trying it on again without it negatively impacting the fans of these clubs?

Arsenal, Liverpool and United fans all want their owners gone and would accept a couple of seasons of mediocrity if it means getting rid of them. You have to devalue the clubs to make them go as that is all they are interested in. OT has holes in the roof and is on its arse due to the Glazers not spending on the stadium.

This actually is a case of having to destroy the village in order to save it. Punitive damages. Plus salary caps which mean elite player wages cut by two thirds and banning agents. Quotas for domestic players.

The utter greed around football is what's killing it.
The ESL's promise that more money would trickle down to smaller clubs is empty, cynical and meaningless rhetoric.
Every round of auctioning TV rights brings MASSIVE payments by TV companies.
And every year that money is just put into increasingly obscene transfer fees and player wages. In what sick world is one man who's quite good at kicking a ball around a park worth £120,000,000 and £350,000 a week (over £18,000,000 a year)?
Surely some form of wage-capping (as Rangers77 suggests) or overall salary budget (as in the MLS) is the only thing that's going to stop this ridiculous and worsening situation.
Otherwise football will disappear up is own arse in a never-ending escalation of endlessly spiralling costs.
While the game's governing bodies - both nationally and internationally - have their snouts in the trough, I can't see meaningful change anytime soon.

IOW how do you prevent the cycle being repeated by the next owner? The 'fit and proper person' test has been a failure. Is a more visionary solution to have custodians of football clubs rather than owners?

Otherwise football will disappear up is own arse in a never-ending escalation of endlessly spiralling costs. While the game's governing bodies - both nationally and internationally - have their snouts in the trough, I can't see meaningful change anytime soon. its gotten ridiculous. i was checking the 2004-2006 premier league transfers the other day just to see how much its changed, and to see the money that chelsea splurged out on players in that period. so many of the transfers were for absolute pennies in todays age, guys like aaron hughes and simon davies went for 1m and 4m respectively. they were decent premier league players back then but would easily go for 20m-30m in todays overpriced market. wayne rooney went for 30m to man utd and he was a special player, everton would be demanding 150m-200m for him today. perez statements about money trickling down is absolute bollox and we all know it is. if the big clubs weren't in the domestic leagues then the demand for games wouldn't be as lucrative as it is now. the big clubs could hoard all their money and then sign the best emerging talent for pennies whilst everyone else laps up the scraps lol. perez even said that madrid has lost 400m in 2 years. let that sink in, 400 million. how the fuck does a club the size and popularity of real madrid lose 400m in two years? if they're hemoraging money at that kind of rate then they need to take a look at themselves and how they run the club rather than instead deciding to siphon money from other clubs to prop up their lavish spending. i'm glad its not going ahead but i fear this isn't the end of a ESL discussion and it will eventually come to fruition, all so a few greedy men can hoard even more money to themselves. they don't give a rats arse about football.

If it was a CL negotiating ploy its backfired spectacularly. I over estimated their intelligence.
ESL couldn't even manage a joint statement / groupthink once the guns opened up. Chaotic PR disaster zone.
Having said all that UEFA, the EPL and FIFA are all highly suspect organisations

Simple solution as a penalty. Halve all revenue the 12 are due to receive in the next 3 years from European competition and put that money into grass roots football across Europe.

I just think someone needs to organise the inaugural Sepp Blatter trophy.
We could hold it down the Scrubs. Invite the ESL boys to break away and participate.
Free abuse and a whole packet of hobnobs to the winners.

Now the six leeches want Celtic and Rangers to join the PL and four existing members to be excluded as its size is reduced to 18. English football will rue the day it didn't seize the opportunity to fuck them off to their ESL and remove these cuckoos in the nest.

wouldn't mind seeing celtic and rangers in the prem, albeit not reduced to 18 teams. think it would help improve british football in general.
i don't think celtic or rangers would struggle either. maybe for the first 2-3 seasons whilst they get to grips with it but you'd make an argument that they're probably mid table standard teams right now anyway.

And our leagues could no longer be called English but British instead. Good luck with all that 😅 And that's before Scottish independence...then what would it be called?! 😅

Rod, writing in this weeks Speccie, says that the championship is the third most attended football competition in Europe. Above La Liga and Serie A and the French Ligue 1. On top of being the most competitive league in the world.
