Ah yes, I remember now. That was all linked to Palace being sold and flirting with Administration etc.

Agents run the market these days. 90% will always sell the highest remuneration deal to their client. Which is not necessarily in his best interests.
It might be much more in the player's long term interest to go for less money to a club more suited to him as a footballer. If Eze was valued at say £10m you'd actually see interest from bigger clubs looking for value (say Arsenal). It's a big mistake to think that the richest clubs (PSG apart) are always going for big money signings.
Also a mistake to think that the seller dictates the market value. The agent does, because at the end of the day contracts are practically worthless, and that fact hangs over every club like a sword. Look at the Bale situation.
The agent will just go for the most inflated deal out there. I mean Palace, ffs. It's hard to think of a club less suited to a player like him (in football terms).

We need to play tough. If palace want him match w brom now,if not fuck off. They got a steal at mo. He got with extension 2 on his contract. He can stay with us till next window. If he have a blinder u want him there's the price. We will have more takers.

Especially if he develops as a lot of us believe he will. As far as WBA are concerned maybe they had their chance and blew it. We don't know the detail.

Very true Croyds. I'd assume that all interested parties were given ample opportunity to make an offer. Sounds like Eze has wanted Palace all along anyway. I think we did well to squeeze as much out of them as they were prepared to offer.

I we only could have squeezed one of their fringe players out of them, it would have been perfect. In addition to the sell-on clause of course.

Snap.
To think we used regularly poach Palace managers and players? As recently as 2011. Regularly under Jim Gregory. Fuck off, Tony Fernandes.

Wish him all the best. His progress over the last few years has been tremendous and he's handled himself very well, despite interest from bigger clubs. Some of our other players could learn a lot from him. He deserves this move and whatever success comes from it.

Good luck to him. Fantastic player and also well done the club of picking and developing a top English talent. Now let’s spend some of that cash on a defender or 2!

But let’s see what happens. pretty much this. if we come out and say that we have money to spend then a 2m player will cost 3m. if we have received 16m (without add ons) then i guess that 5-6m will be avaliable whilst the rest of the money goes into the club. we're not cash strapped but can't just go out throwing cash around. look at the brentford model as an example for what we want to do. they're smaller than us but have money coming in every season from profitable player sales so can afford to chuck 10m on a player

They have a wonderful player and a level headed lad who showed our club respect throughout this. Good luci mate and Manning and BOS take note of how the boy conducted himself

They already said the money will be used to keep the club running and not to buy players. I’m actually not at all bothered if we don’t spend loads of money on transfer fees. Always been a believer that the player’s talent and desire is what will determine how successful his career will be, as opposed to his transfer fee or wages. Lost count of the so called stars of the future, failing to get regular game time as soon as their wages make them think they are something they’re not and they lose the work ethic. It’s clear that we are operating within a pretty strict wage structure now and rightly so. As MW himself pointed out, you won’t get the best team spirit and dressing room togetherness if you have certain players earning disproportionately more than their team mates. I saw a report (must have been bollocks though, surely), that Brentford were planning on spending £10m on a bloke who plays for Peterborough FFS. Utter madness. The quicker football, particularly in the Championship, starts being more realistic with regard to the financial side of things, the better IMO.

As I've been saying for a long time, the board are just running a holding operation to minimalise losses in the hope that a property deal or takeover turns up without us actually getting relegated (which would seriously devalue the club's market status.)
Nothing shows the true lack of ambition more evidently than this, since lets not kid ourselves, Eze is nowhere near the sort of value that would force people with the resources of our owners to sell come what may.
We're a long way below Palace and even Brentford in terms of financial management. In fact we're miles behind them in almost every single respect.

hal9thou, how is the club "a holding operation in the hope that a property deal turns up"? I still don't really understand that.
