JCS (hamstring) back by the international break by all accounts. As a CB he’s an upgrade on Barbet. Barbet still being clubless is the clue there (he’s been a free agent the entire summer). So overall I’d say it’s a net positive Either way signing a 34-year-old seems a bit of a departure from "give youth a chance" and precisely the kind of move that led to Warbs falling out with Ferdinand. Balogun is a free agent which makes this a straightforward piece of business, and I think its fair to say that most Rangers fans thought he did a decent job, a CB who can cover RB. If we simply don't have youth players who are good enough to make the transition, and you factor in the JCS injury, then maybe this isn't that much of a departure. I still have massive issues with the way the club is being run and the people being paid to run it, but Mick Beale is not one of those people - although I think he has been naive, particularly regarding the striker situation. |

Seems like a big financial commitment just to cover a fairly short-term injury. At 34 I'd imagine it's more of a temporary stop-gap and on affordable wages Or maybe he doesn't rate Dunne? Quite possibly. For me the most encouraging thing about the article is Beale's realisation that Johansen (and Dozzell) are not up to the task and he's actively seeking a replacement. Where was that said? Been away so I'm out of the loop. |

Every window we seem to have one "must have" signing, last season it was Stefan, this season its Archer. He probably is very good but 7 goals in 20 Championship appearances suggest he is someway off the finished article, yet have read fans comments saying things like "he would guarantee us promotion". In short he would probably be a good addition but - like you probably - I wish we were being linked to a striker like this Wimbledon lad - who is just the right profile for us, just not the priority position IMHO. Where would he even fit in the team when Amos, Richards and Roberts are fit? |

Yeah guess so, but we have Amos and Richards to come back plus Roberts didn't start last night and is prob more a Number 10 than a Number 9. We have a lot of talent in midfield and there are players you can juggle there (Laird moved up to right side midfield in the latter stages last night). But if you don't have a single striker in the squad who can apparently be relied upon to hit an open goal from a yard out you have a problem, and on very limited budgets that would be my priority. |
