He's a midfielder right? Just don't think that's the priority, particularly with Richards and Amos due to come in It’s all about opinions Stainrod, but Gerrard said a month ago Archer is staying put, be very surprised if he changes his mind. DMF would seem a priority for me as Johansen has been poor. Read a stat saying Field has made more tackles than anyone in the Championship (and Chair - who lots of fans don't seem to rate! - more assists BTW). Seems to me we have one of the best defensive midfielders in the division in the building. Why not play him there? I get that this Villa lad with the difficult name might be an upgrade on what we have but you could go round the Premier League and find an upgrade on every single player in our squad, even on Willock - we are a mid-table Championship side after all. But overwhelmingly the priority for us (as discussed to death) is surely for a striker, not a midfielder.

Play him up front. He's got to be better than Dykes!

I get that Beale likes these hybrid players but I would have more sympathy with that argument if Roberts was actually being played as a striker. But he seems to be played as a number 10 behind Dykes, so as of the minute isn't solving the striker problem in my view.

Thought the font of all knowledge from life and wls said we was close to another signing? This decade? Surely Beale hasn't gone and shot his load early again with a premature press briefing on a transfer which turns out to be wishful thinking?

Not sure a Twitter account with only 578 Followers (1/2 of which are prob bots) can be taken too seriously...

Another Beale U Turn then. Only a month ago he said we didn't need Barbet as our younger centre halves need to step up. Seems like full on panic, Capt Mannwering.

Clearly he doesn't feel they have stepped up sufficiently. It's completely logical to re-enforce if deals are do-able. I think the only full on panic is coming from you.... signing people like Jeff Hendrick panicked me.

But the strategy is lurching all over the place. They got rid of Barbet and Wallace and now they sound surprised they don't have any defensive cover. Beale was also determined to go 4 at the back but we went 5 at the back because we leak like a sieve. All of this any QPR fan could have told them months ago...

A lot going on in that article so suspect lots of its is pure speculation. No way will we sign 5 players reading that part made me think lots of this is for attention.
Could see two players coming in tops

JCS (hamstring) back by the international break by all accounts. As a CB he’s an upgrade on Barbet. Barbet still being clubless is the clue there (he’s been a free agent the entire summer). So overall I’d say it’s a net positive

Either way signing a 34-year-old seems a bit of a departure from "give youth a chance" and precisely the kind of move that led to Warbs falling out with Ferdinand.

Seems like a big financial commitment just to cover a fairly short-term injury. At 34 I'd imagine it's more of a temporary stop-gap and on affordable wages Or maybe he doesn't rate Dunne? Quite possibly. For me the most encouraging thing about the article is Beale's realisation that Johansen (and Dozzell) are not up to the task and he's actively seeking a replacement.
