Something has been said. Much better contribution today. Always gives 100%, today some end product too. definitely. hopefully the penny is finally dropping. said many times, always plays best when he and willock start. today andersen started too - that was also key further, he actually trusted his left foot a bit more today. needs to keep working on that side of his game, and that can only happen on the training pitch with more hard graft

Played a blinder.
Not sure why he tried to go straight down the tunnel at the end when the players came over to clap the fans but Marti forced him back over.
We don't get many days like that Illy so lap it up don't just fuck off son.

Way more central today. Hence the goal. Anderson starting in, what used to be called, right wing half, gave us way more space. And allowed Willock to roam.

Noticed Andersen and Chair switching sides a lot too. Very fluid!

Noticed Andersen and Chair switching sides a lot too. Very fluid! That's what we needed. Tying Chair to the left is not the best use of him. Think that Hayden and Field as the anchoring two did us a lot of favours today. Letting others move about. And I wouldn't have played Field.

In fact everyone did really, subs included.

Amazing what happens if you instruct good footballers to play with the ball rather than hoofing it up field to get rid - who would have thunk it...

Think this stat proves what a lot of us have been saying. Think he’s scored one goal this season from outside the box from 51 attempts that is awful. Imagine opportunities which could possibly have been created if he kept the ball moving and not been so greedy.

And to think some wanted him out of the team a few weeks back 🫢
Whatever about his faults, and he has plenty, he is our main threat by long stretch.

MOTM for me today.
Played excellent throughout. Tracked back the whole game.
And perhaps his best goal this season, which DIDN'T actually take a deflection! 😅
The bend he got on it was incredible as it was heading wide then curled back in, leaving their keeper rooted to his spot. He was a total bystander not even attempting to save it.

Their keeper was wrongly positioned, about half a meter too left from Chair's view and probably thought it was going wide. Brilliant shot from Chair.

He hit it earlier than keeper was expecting too Timmy. Another stride or two and keeper would have been moving instead of flat-footed. Not great keeping but it was a terrific shot with bend on it.

Agree, brilliant shot and even if keeper had been rightly positioned he most likely wouldn't have saved it.

I've been wondering what might happen to Ilias Chair in the coming months.
Although he received a jail sentence (12 month, plus a further 12 months suspended and over £13k compensation to the victim), he has been allowed to remain free and continue to play for us. He is appealing the sentence.
The Belgian system has been affected by a massive over-crowding problem in the country’s jails in recent years. Until September 2022, anybody handed less than three years jail time would not see a single day behind bars.
In September 2023, laws were tightened further so that those with shorter sentences were meant to spend at least some of that time locked up. But with the over-crowding still a factor, the practicality is that those with a sentence of less than two years can ask to be punished outside of jail.
Belgians generally serve only one third of their allotted time and the last six months of that can be outside prison with electronic surveillance – effectively the entirety of any jail time under 18 months.
So (rightly or wrongly) there seems reasonable chance he'll be playing next season.

In Spain I believe if it’s your first offence and you get a prison sentence of 12 (or maybe 24 months?) or less, you don’t actually have to go to prison. But if you do anything else during that time you serve it. Anyone else heard this? Could it be something similar here?

Report of the hearing:
The facts took place in the summer of 2020, after a kayaking trip on the Semois that started in the Ardennes and ended in Bazeilles, France. A family from East Flanders arrived at the end of a long journey. There were buses ready to take the tired and hungry tourists back to the starting point. While queuing, a commotion arose between the East Flemish people and the family of professional footballer Ilias Chair, starting player at Queens Park Rangers and thirteen-time Moroccan international, who played the consolation final at the 2022 World Cup. There was shouting back and forth, hitting, scratching and pushing and during the confrontation Chair grabbed a large stone with which he hit Niels T.'s head.
The consequences were dramatic, victim T. suffered a skull fracture of 2 centimeters and was in hospital for a while. Because the French Gendarmerie had shown little initiative to get started with the brawl, T. and his family filed a complaint in Belgium. This led to a lawsuit in Antwerp against Ilias Chair at the beginning of this year, who then denied through his lawyer that he was the man who hit the stone. He was sentenced to two years in prison, half of which was suspended. His sister-in-law and a family member also received suspended prison sentences.
New lawyers The case was heard on appeal on Wednesday, and this time the professional footballer was present. The sister-in-law and the relative also came to the appeals court. The defendants and their (new) lawyers said that they had been poorly advised in the first instance by their then joint lawyer. “He said that everything would be fine, that I did not have to come to Belgium for the trial. I realized too late that I was being given bad advice.” With his new lawyer, master Frank Scheerlinck, Chair changed course and no longer denies being the man who delivered the blow with the stone. In the meantime, he also paid all compensation to the victims, a total of just over 20,000 euros.
“I don't recognize myself in this story. I have never been violent or exposed to violence in my life. I was not raised that way,” Chair read a written statement. “This dates from four years ago. I was 22 and it was corona times. In the meantime I got married and had a son. I have grown enormously and am aware of my role model. I have to try to always be the best version of myself, for my son, but also for children and young adults worldwide. I will do my best every day to correct this. I would like to apologize again and apologize to the victim.”
Impact of conviction Lawyer Frank Scheerlinck outlined the impact of the conviction by the criminal court in February. “All hell broke loose and the tabloids in England made it horrible. He had to run from paparazzi and a photo of his wife in a hospital bed was even published.” Scheerlinck asked the court to give Chair a community service order. “He lives in London, but often comes to Antwerp to visit his family. He will therefore carry out that community service order. My client is at a turning point in his career. He hopes to secure a transfer to a club in the Premier League. That is not possible with a prison sentence or an ankle bracelet.”
Attorney General Ken Witpas had already taken a more lenient stance in his criminal proceedings than the public prosecutor's office at first instance. “I don't have the impression that the defendants are the most aggressive by nature,” he said. For Ilias Chair, the prosecutor believes a suspension (guilty without punishment) is too lenient and requested a community service order of 200 hours. The prosecutor requested 50 hours of community service for the sister-in-law and the family member, both involved in the fight, but does not oppose the suspension requested by their lawyers Joris Van Cauter and Mathias De Daele. The court of appeal will deliver its ruling on July 17.
