He hopes to secure a transfer to a club in the Premier League. That is not possible with a prison sentence or an ankle bracelet....... The brief is just laying it on thick to show the impact those sanctions would have on his professional life. Wouldn’t read anything into that

If I’ve read it right, it seems that the prosecution would be happy with a community service order.

Couldn't playing for Gareth be a retrospective punishment?

Showing my age, but I remember in a football comic called Scorcher, there was a strip call Lags Eleven about a prison football team. Chair would fit right in, especially in the Scrubs

I used to play for my college team in Norwich.
HMP Norwich had a team in our league - they only ever played home matches (which seemed a bit unfair on the rest of us). They were a great bunch and we always had good matches.
Norfolk Police also had a team in the same league - they were a bunch of dirt bastards who loved kicking the shit out of a bunch of students...

Before this there was a strong possibility we would lose our best player to prison. Now he will either be available for us next season or (sad as I would be to see him go) sold for a decent wedge which would finance re-enforcements.

Assume those hours have to be done in the country he’s sentenced over a designated period. We may still miss him for a short period whilst he does it.

I suspect he's got off with a suspended sentence plus fine and the club is simply saying the 'right thing'. Hope so.

He has pleaded guilty, so I guess the club is trying to say that whatever, the sentence, he will be in trouble with his club as well. But yeah, curious timing.

To be honest, the club probably should condemn his behaviour. From what I've read about the case he's very lucky not to be doing a stretch inside.

I think they do condemn it in that statement: "Queens Park Rangers Football Club expects its staff and players to conduct themselves in an exemplary fashion at all times. The club will now carry out its own disciplinary procedures, which will include reminding the player of his responsibilities at all times."
I think they've handled it well.

Quality news. I am choosing to be blinkered as fuck & focus solely on the selfish fact we need him on the pitch. Chuffed with this news.

Getting a bit worried about Chair situation. No mention of him from Marti…..who doesn’t look as happy as last season. Leeds need a player like him and have a few quid in the bank and tried to sign him last year I think.

I think we have to manage without him. And would be better off. Good player, brilliant attitude, but too big a player for our team.

how do you read that and come back with he’s off 😂😂😂 Could be entirely genuine but sometimes things just seem too convenient. We’ve surely got to sell someone this window. My cynicism about football goes back a long way. Here, Jim Gregory personally announced to the crowd that Venables was staying put. Next time we saw him was on the pitch at Barca.
