There's only one player who can put his foot on the ball and then go past a couple of men. He's injured, and when he isn't Southgate has a stick up his arse about him.
Unlike Foden, Sancho, Mount, Maddison etc Jack Grealish has done it playing for Villa ffs who are absolute dross without him. If he played for any of the top six he'd have been first name on the England sheet for a while.
Meanwhile Sterling still seems to lack any degree of box composure in an England shirt, he looked like our boy Dykes today and was a shambles at the last WC. Which is a shame but its undeniable.
Without MF creativity and and a second quality striker we might as well not bother. IMO of course....

picking the england squad in general is ridiculously hard imo.
i mean, who starts in the 3 or 4 up top? obviously kane is a given but then you have to choose between grealish, foden, sancho, mount, sterling and rashford so its not really that easy although i agree that grealish should be one of the first names on the team sheet.
i think england easily have one of the best squads in the world but the problem imo is the manager. southgate is steady but i can't see him lighting the world on fire at england although i'd absolutely love to be proven wrong.
i don't really care about england that much unless its a tournament as its just the same stuff all the time.
would love gerrard to be our manager as he looks like he's gunna be a world class manager one day

I think its wrong and short sighted to have an England team. Why should we glory about beating another country. So aggressive and nationalism. We are not a country we are the world. When England play I paint myself rainbow colours,get on my non gender bike to ride to country side to save a wild flower and then take a knee. Rest of u are a disgrace.

Arguably, you want a team to have

Walker/TAA Maguire Stones Chillwell/Shaw
Henderson/Rice
Mount Grealish
Sterling Kane Rashford
Really attacking team though!

TAA not been in good form this season tbh whereas reece james has been quality, same with wan bissaka although he's more defensive than a fullback. plus on the fringes there's tavernier of rangers too who's been in scintilating form and has contributed something like 17 goals and 14 assists in 40 games which can't go unnoticed. i would prefer ward-prowse over henderson personally as he's a good modern midfielder and is excellent on set pieces which is something every team needs. the final third is insanely hard to pick though lol. my england squad would be something like... pope james maguire stones shaw ward-prowse rice sterling rashford grealish kane or pope james maguire stones shaw ward-prowse mount rice sterling kane grealish difficult either way lol. |

They were poor for long periods tonight. One shot on target in each half excluding the pen.
Southgate has tactical issues that need addressing, a sniff of organised defending and we look lost.
As for waiting until the 86th minute to make a sub.....
