On a more interesting subject but only just England play again tonight sounds like a scratch side will be out.

Saw the ghost of QPR Xmas past Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on the England bench at half time.... Could see it was an omen of a forth coming defeat.... Jimmy Floyd is clearly cut from the same cloth as Southgate. Both churn out boring pedestrian football. If England win the Euros it will be in spite of Southgate not because of him. I do wonder why he's still in a job there. But only follow England in the major tournaments now so don't really know the ins and outs. But for me he was a spent force after the last world cup. Does seem a pity the FA persist with him considering the amazing footballing talent we have and how a better manager would have won something by now IMO. My fear is he's still in the job for political reasons rather than footballing ones.

Think Jarrod Bowen could play higher than West Ham. Think he’s a player when he’s firing.

Why do all the presenters now stand on pitch pre match even when it’s smashing down with rain or it’s freezing instead of being in a box like they used too.

Gutted about Wales. England don't have the depth or the manager to get anywhere near the Euros this year imo.

This team has had the biggest potential in the world the last few tournaments but not the right manager. Almost every time they've come up against a top team they've come unstuck.

tbh i think gareth was more so testing stuff out for the friendlys as we look a different team when it actually matters. i don't really rate gareth but if we're gunna lose i'd rather it be these matches than at tournaments lol.
lot's of teams have lost matches right before tournaments and gone on to win them. it's between us and france imo.

I don't have a problem with Southgate - he's the most successful England manager since Sir Alf Ramsey - although things did seem to be more exciting under Venables and Robson.
That said, Southgate's tentative tactics in the Euros final against Italy was infuriating - really hope he's learned from that.
With a potentially flaky defence, attack has to be the way to go.

If he was testing out stuff, why not play Branthwaite? Defence is our weakest area. Totally missed opportunity.
Southgate. A serial also-ran. A mid-wit. Whenever I hear his droning voice and see his gormless face I think of his penalty miss in the 96 Euros. What a waste of a golden generation of talent.

Haha, didn’t actually say he was successful as such, just that he was the most successful since Ramsey. I guess every England manager has been a failure if only tournament wins count as success. But maybe qualification for tournaments counts as some kind of success.

In that he's got England further than any manager since in tournaments. If winning anything is the criteria then every manager since Ramsey has been a failure. Unless you count Le Tournoi in the 90s, under Venables (?) 🤣

Obviously I know how far England have progressed in tournaments under Southgate - I was at Wembley for the Euro 2020 final. But that's my point: he lost that final. A final that should and could have been won, and actually won fairly easily. But his regressive, defensive tactics cost us the title. So progression in tournaments is meaningless as far as I'm concerned. More telling is how England have performed against top 20 sides under Southgate, and the answer is: not well at all. So no, he's not a successful manager as far as I'm concerned.

The disappointment of losing in finals and semi-finals of major tournaments and competing and enjoying after years of absolute crap! FFS we support QPR. He's done well in comparison.
