Assuming we stay up, who would you like to off-load in the close season to hopefully bring in better?
Clearly a lot of factors in play, not least whether anyone will actually want a particular player if their contract is not up. Also depends on whether Eze goes and how much money is available for upgrades.
For me priorities to acquire are:
1) At least one striker (by a country mile the biggest priority)
2) New goalkeeper
3) Hayden
For me players to off-load are (probably forgetting some former youth players):
Dozzell
Dykes
Kelman
Bergovic
Kakak
Drewe
Albert (great character but no longer in picture due to age)
Duke-Mckenna
Richards (almost forgot him for the list - tells its own story)
For me players with a question mark over their heads are:
Smyth
Frey
Loan players returning:
Hodge
Thoughts?

pretty much agree with what you said. if we get a great offer for chair we should consider it but personally i'm a big fan of his as even though he has his faults in attack he brings so much to the team with his tremendous work rate.
would personally keep frey, he works hard and is bound to grab a few important goals. not a starting striker by any means but he's a great plan B option off the bench and a huge improvement on dykes.
would also keep smyth, he's not the greatest but he also won the corner that got us the goal today. every team needs those kinds of players that will give die for the team every time they play and he's one of those. and to be fair to him he's never really cost us a game or made massive mistakes, he's just not quite good enough skill wise for the league.
after begovic goes we need a new captain and it should be between dunne, cook and JCS imo. JCS has been my POTY, cook for his vast experience and dunne for his longevity here, new found maturity and as a sweetener for a new deal.

On your last point, its a sign of our improvement that we now have several candidates for captain. Its Cook for me - JSC the more skilful player but Cook a real leader. |

I don’t think hodge has done enough this far to mean he should return. We got get maximum output for our money and from what I’ve seen there will be better players out there who will have more of an impact.
Signing on perm as long term player cool but as a loan no as you want your loan players to influence, like Hayden, or what’s the point.
Notable outs would be Dykes, Asmir, Smyth, Dozzell and Cannon.
Need as a priority striker and a keeper.

Such an important position the difference
Of promotion and relegation
Our whole defence need to be put on long contracts
Its solid as a rock we havnt had that for years
Also how good are the physio team no injuries
Hardly this season even now epic work
So important to our survival last year
Everyone was injured long term

Does Hodge offer more than EDB for example? Get rid of both? Who are we developing then? |

I fully agree there's no room for sentiment. And I wouldn't start Smyth but there are times he can make an impact off the bench IMO. As Corbs said, for example he made the corner that led to the goal today. He's played his part in other goals scored this season too. Stats don't always tell the whole story, as we all know.

What’s our ambition? And there is the question: "what is our ambition?" To that I would add "what are our means?" If budget is very limited again and the aim is comfortable mid-table/ top half finish then the likes of Smyth and Frey will probably stay on. Similarly Muscles will be developed "in house" and get increasingly more game-time. If the board go through one of their periodic spells of getting excited about promotion then clearly we need upgrades. |

Unless we have a surprise ‘Warnock’ season - which was a bit like Leicester winning the Prem let’s face it - then I can’t see us going up. Ok, play to win, none of this aim to finish mid-table bollocks, but there are a lot of better placed teams than us now. We need Marti to stay and build something, and that’s not a given.

The young and promising CB Hawkins will probably be assessed by Marty and Calm during the summer. Keeping him at club will mean money saved and used on other targets.

What’s our ambition? couple of goals though. his pace and work rate is also an asset and without him we wouldn't have won the game today as he got the corner which got us the winner. we need players like smyth in the squad as they offer something different and give their all for the team. fletcher wasn't the greatest player but he was important for man utd because he was a team player and cared about the club. |

To me there are obvious outs...
Purely age related and I assume out of contract, Asmir and Albert...
Dozzell, Duke-McKenna both off as out of contract and loaned till end of season
Drewe and Dunne are out of contract? I only hope Dunnes recent resurgence under Marti will lead to an extension as he wants to be part of the club's future going forward
I'm assuming Willock will leave, noticeable that he was benched while Chair who did play did so without food or drink due to Ramadan which says a lot to me...
I would hope some sort of deal can be resolved with the player to get Richards off the books
I've read some suggesting Dykes and Kelman might leave but both have signed extensions so unless money is forthcoming I doubt it
Calls for Smyth and Cannon to go seems silly to me, both offer cover and options from the bench at least...
Every player has a price this and includes Chair and Field.... I hope neither goes
Eze is the unknown, any deal that pays us money could give Marti a decent war chest for next season.... Here's hoping!

To be honest who expected the upturn of JCS this season... Suspect this is the Marti effect (ala Dunne) He's now a legitimate transfer target for some premier league clubs... The club looks like it's sorted out it's business head, sell if the price is right.... However players are only worth what someone is willing to pay.. (ala Smithies) |
