Today’s opening game surely can’t be as bad as last season at Watford. close Nah, wasn't anywhere near as bad as Watford.

These last 10 minutes have been much better. Too little too late, I fear. Could have started with a totally different team, but hindsight is a great thing. Sadly no hindsight was needed. Quite a few of were alarmed by the lack of creativity pre season (the 10 dilemna), and how poor Paal looked. And we said so. I have to say we have also witnessed some questionable management on the tactical / selection fronts. Lets hope this was a massive rod up the collective arse, someone needs to wake these people up fast. Only as good as your last game.

I feel pretty shit after that tbh. Everyone gets excited about Smyth and he definitely gives it a go but achieves nothing, Andersen lots of nice touches but too many mistakes. Celar watched from afar, no different to Dykes. Comes to something when Frey is our best option, at least he got involved. Varane might make a difference but we need a great season from Chair, greedy or not. Genuinely can't bring myself to get excited when Smyth gets the ball. 9 times out of 10 he will lose the ball. this is me when he gets the ball i just sigh as you just know it’s going end with them having ball. He got on ball in last ten mins only LB ahead of him and I said to Alanwycombe how’s he going to fuck this one up. Three seconds later he had run into the LB. And REPEAT.

Lads and ladies and he she them they. It’s a marathon not a sprint and yes we are going to loose games and play shit. But we will also do plenty of the opposite. Not ideal but they a top 6 side withe budget and we re not. I’d be more concerned if it was say Oxford who had just done that. Chill

Having had an hour or so to mull it over, it could be worse, we could be Norwich. WBA will be up there again this season.

More a case of us being that bad than them being that good IMO.
If Dembele and Saito sign, Chair and Fox return, and Varane starts games, then not as concerned as those changes would address the key weaknesses.

Was not massively impressed with WBA which is alarming. Cut the crosses out and they never crested anything rest of the game but if you dont do the basics your going come unstuck.

Give Celar benefit of the doubt
Still say we need two up front especially at home.
Ideally two with pace, other tham our goal,West Brom had time at the back most of the game allowing their midfield time also and control of the game.

On a more positive note, Sinclair was subbed today on 64m and his replacement came on and scored. No change there.
Willock also subbed around the same time.
Today was a much needed lesson for us and Marti in particular. Far too many questionable decisions. Smyth & Paal shouldn't be wearing the shirt, neither good enough, which both have demonstrated over and over again. Celar needs to pull hjis international finger well clear of his arse if he wants to do anything in the championship.
Btw anyone know how Rohan Vaughan is getting on?

Varane looked very good in the short amount of time he was on the pitch.

thought WBA looked solid, not spectacular. rarely put a foot wrong throughout but we hardly troubled them anyway.
main gripe for me is celar's performance. there's needing service but he was expecting everything to be put on a plate for him, didn't put a shift in in the slightest, made one run all game and backed out of many other runs and duels. needs to step it up.
we weren't completely awful but we certainly didn't look good. thank god we have 2 new attackers coming in, it's much needed.
will add that i think marti got it a bit wrong today too. we weren't winning the midfield battles and could have done with moving to a 3 man midfield to better deal with WBA's possession.

I think Marti was a bit hamstrung by the players he had available to be honest Corbs. Agree that Celar is a worry though. I'm really hoping there is a lot more to come from him. Otherwise we will have another season with a selection of duds to pick from up top.

Much of our possession involved Smyth. If he weren't playing we'd have had no possession. I get the point about end product. I think I contributed more than Celar. I'd have replaced him with Dykes. That's how shit he was.

I think Celar will suffer from the patience shown to Donkey. We want something different and were expecting it straight away. Frey gets involved and it shows immediately. Not very good but he competes.

The perfect result to calm a few over excited fans down in my opinion. Odd, happy with a loss? We have fans who have convinced themselves that Marti is going to be the best manager in our history. Losing an opening match to calm expectations down is far better than losing an end of season six pointer.

No, we have fans who can see things moving on the right direction after the circus of the last decade. There has been plenty of concern expressed on here as well as enthusiasm. If you can’t get excited about the prospects of your team there is something wrong.

I'm so gutted mate.
Before kickoff i would have been happy with a draw.
When we went a goal up, i thought we were going to beat them.
1-1 at half time, i was content.
then, second half, it was the Paal shitshow.
one player cost us that game and it was that thick carnt.
there seems to be someone in the crowd that has a remote control on and off switch that controls his brain.
wish the bloke would switch it to on.

This game was always going to be won in midfield
It was so obviously pack defence pack midfield
Steal a 1-0 win
Marti got his tacktics and line up wrong
Who wants Hayden back now then ?

any thoughts on our new goalkeeper? Not much he could do about any of the goals imo. Distribution was much better than Begovic though.

any thoughts on our new goalkeeper? Other than one save he had nothing to do but pick the ball out of the net three times.

Agree, and would add maybe the Liverpool youngster on loan if we can bomb out Paal. Not convinced we have found a 10-goal a season striker who can hold the ball up and bring others into play - but Dembele, Saito and Chair in an attacking midfield would hopefully still cause plenty of fireworks

I was a bit pissed 2nd half but did i recall Frey missing an open goal that Lennie peters could have slotted in a sensory deprivation tank?

A week is a long time in football
Chair back
Varane playing
Two new wingers
We need to stiffen up the team sharpish
To lose 3-1 at home isn’t great but we can
Fix it asap

Need more steel in midfield so obvious
Colback Field Varane Hayden
Teams just run straight through our midfield
I’d go all out for Haden all out he will stop goals
