Can’t defend him today was a shocking effort. Showed nothing in attack or defence and gave ball away for derby second.
If dropped after break he can’t complain.

I can’t defend him and feel a bit stupid for some of my comments earlier. The only thing I would say is that maybe his position is better in the 10 role. I did think it was odd to sign a central mid who can’t head and doesn’t like to tackle….

maybe his position is better in the 10 role. I think that's where he scored all his goals from last season.

as it stands with madsen he either needs to develop a different side of his game or have the entire midfield built around him to get the best out of him and i'm unsure if he's good enough to warrant that. intelligent passer of the ball and decent when not under pressure or capitalising on space but that's about it.
can't really be a one trick pony in this league but i do have a lot of hope for madsen. i don't understand why we'd spend £3m on him unless we genuinely believed that we could adapt his game.

Scored 14 goals last season in the Belgian top tier
Mainly in the 10 role afaik.
Case to play him there instead?
Possibly 8 but 6 is certainly not where he's best

He would at least do less damage fannying around doing nothing as a 10. Terrible player

Do you score 14 goals in Belgian top tier if you’re a terrible player?

You don’t score 14 goals in nearly two seasons if you’re a Scottish international so what have we done to him? Signed his twin brother?

Luton - he was there and he didn’t panic, just put it away. Enigma.

Not sure scoring from the penalty spot makes you a good player

Do you score 14 goals in Belgian top tier if you’re a terrible player? But we are signing players who can make an impression in England. Its not me being anti Continental, many of the best players in English football have been foreigners. There have been plenty of Danish players I have loved watching. But I have just yet to see anything that makes me think this particular player has the attitude and aptitude to thrive in the Champ. In particular I think his defensive/ tackling / running/ closing down/ aerial contribution has been shameful. So his assists and goals would have to be pretty phenomenal to compensate for the fact that he will basically be a passenger for the rest of the game.

Not sure scoring from the penalty spot makes you a good player Strawman, Stains, in the full context of the posts above. You're better than that.

The suggestion here is playing him in the 10, where he has done much better (and is a different role). Not in an 8 or 6, where QPR have been playing him. I'm not saying it's the answer, but it might be. And it's something we haven't tried, even though he thrived in that position last season.

I think Madsen started one game as 10, was poor there. Played DM second half where he was better.

I just haven't seen anything to suggest he will make it in the Championship. Even as a 10 you need desire, tackles, heading ability, strength. Particularly with players like Saito and Dembele around you and given how isolated Frey has looked.

With Colback and Varane out we have EDB (who seems to be out of favour) but no one else. To be fair, Marti’s changed the formation because Madsen isn’t good enough in the centre mid role!
