Lee Dixon been retired what 15 years never coached never shown any sign Of wanting too and comfortable on the tv sofas why would he even Be a suggestion. Like I said, he was suggested during an awful defensive period as someone who at the very least could organise a back line, make sure someone was calling the shots back there for set pieces etc etc. I think his experience as an invincible (and before that) suggested he might be well qualified to come in for a few weeks to try and get some order out of the chaos. Basic stuff just wan't happening. As for Jody Morris.... no.

Still not sure how I feel about this one. Clearly a very highly rated guy in the industry, and I like how he comes across on every video I can find of him. But weren't we saying all these things about Ramsey when we made him Manager? I really hope it turns out to be a Masterstroke, but history tells us that more often than not it doesn't work out when an experienced Coach or Assistant is given the top job. Tarbs you’ve mentioned Ramsey quite a bit. What you’re forgetting is Ramsey never came here to be a manager. He was literally thrown into the lions den at a time when Pep Guardiola wouldn’t have been able to help us. The squad and club was toxic. You can’t use Ramsey as an example in any way or form tbh.

Isn`t 3-5-2(with variations) the system that all our teams are playing? I’m not so sure all our youth sides play the same way Shania. David McIntyre described youth team players being sent to play with the first team and MW refusing to accept them due to being unfamiliar with the system.
This tells you everything you need to know about how dysfunctional we've been at all levels and MW's lack of tactical flexibility. Re Mick's set up. 4-3-3 ish I reckon.

to add to timmy's point i think ramsay has said that all youth teams play the same style too. its not about results but churning out players who can slot in. i do think our academy has come on leaps and bounds since ramsay came in though. hopefully we can produce one or two more players, everyone knows about armstrong but i'm curious to see how kakay gets on under beale. i've been a big critic of kakay in the past but who knows Corbs, I respect the views you post so I’m not having a pop but I still think that us and youth is a bit of a myth. How has Ramsey brought the academy on in recent years if Warburton didn’t think our youngsters are good enough? Only Kakay is ‘ours’ and most people don’t rate him. Eze had been around and was 18/19 when he came here, Chair was nearly 20. I think the jury is still very much out on Ramsey and developing our youth. I’m sure the better facility being built will help but I reckon Beale will need all his youth development experience.

Largely agree with you, what I'm not sure about is precisely at what point Ramsey ceases to be involved with a player's development. I am not fussed if someone is "ours". Think that's a bit meaningless nowadays when players are picked up by teams aged seven or eight and might have been registered with five different clubs before they break into a senior squad. I wd actually prefer we focus our v limited resources on scouting, pinching and developing players 18-23 who for whatever reason have not quite made the big time elsewhere but we can turn into a player, like Eze or Chair. The chance of getting a player at even 14 and saying "we want him to develop sufficiently to break into the first team" is probably at best 100/1 shot. But I do question how many players Ramsay has brought on. I simply don't know how much he has had to do with the development of Chair, Bright, Eze, Deing etc. If he has, then he has probably done a good job, if that was done more by the first team coaches then his impact has been pretty minimal. A mark against him IMHO is the bottom of the table performances of our U18s and U23s. I get its not all about results at that level but doesn't suggest its going exactly brilliantly. If there are a couple of diamonds in there ready for the first team, fair enough. If Warbs is right and nobody good enough is being developed - home grown or shipped in, I don't care really - then clearly he isn't delivering. Wd be interested to hear from someone more plugged into the youth set up than me.

Agree Stains
Football nowadays, off the pitch, bears no resemblance to football from 70/80s totally different ball game. Think older fans harp back to that period as a golden age, perhaps it was but alas times change
I don’t think there will be many kids who go to a club at 8 and work way into the same clubs first team. Think most clubs are now robbing each other’s prospects or picking up those released
If they spend time in our academy, even if they started elsewhere, and get in first team then that’s good enough for me and I’m happy take credit for the part we played

B team, reserves, but at that age shouldn’t they be training with the grown ups? If we look at our two successes, Eze and Chair, we sent them out on loan to teams who don’t play like we do. One even went to play for a manager some fans didn’t want here because he plays direct football and doesn’t use youngsters. It’s all spin, like the WHU academy of football was. All clubs have youth players and reserves, that’s a football club.

My son has just moved up to the under 23s this season was captain for the under 18s last season he has been at qpr since he was 7 we are massive qpr fans but he has worked hard and deserves a chance but qpr seem happy to give players who are 20 years old + and have never been near the first team so will be released so why not bring these boys through instead of players who will never play at qpr first team

One thing to think about is what will be the impact on older players be seeing up and comers overtaking them.

How can there be a gauge of how good players are if the manager doesn’t even watch the boys play MW didn’t watch the younger players play he was never a coach who would give the kids a chance

Should make things easier. I'd say your son also has a better chance of progressing under Beale compared to Warburton. Wish him all the best and will follow his progress. Good to have you onboard.

Great to see you with such passion for your son's career Lee and I hope he continues to progress and we see him in the 1st team soon. I agree with the sentiments of what you're saying. Problem is, our fans are notoriously impatient and we've destroyed kids before bringing them through too quick, asking too much of them and destroying their confidence cos the fans get on their backs.
Stan makes an interesting point. Having the first team train at the same facility as the youngsters from this season will be a huge benefit for kids coming through. They'll have the eyes of all the coaches and the first team on them. Should be a great thing for the club.
I also agree that Beale look to be a much better Manager for genuinely developing young players than anyone we've had here for a very long time. I mean Holloway played a few (team selection tombola ensured this happened when least expected from time to time), but he didn't genuinely develop youngsters, just chucked them in. Beale will be different I think.

Which players are you thinking about Tarbie? I can only think of maybe Lumley? Then I think MW should have taken him out the firing line much earlier.

Post by Tarbie on Jul 17, 2022 9:08:16 GMT
Yeah, Lumley is one mate. Furlong was another that was brought through too quick, but it's was more getting turned inside out by Premier League standard players than the fans that were the problem for him.
Maybe not that many recent examples of youngsters getting dogs abuse (probably cos we haven't fielded many academy players in the last few years) but we've hounded some players out badly. How our fans treated Josh Scowen was a disgrace.
Just gotta be careful with young lads in my opinion. Unfortunately there is still a consideration of protecting them against idiots who just wanna criticise and hurl abuse. I mean, if they're ready then great. But (and I know a few disagree) I think a loan or 2 is always good. Get them a few games in front of fans at a level where they're a big fish in a small pond and they'll be afforded more patience. Get them used to 1st team football before throwing them in with everything a professional sportsman needs to handle in the social media era.

When the the club send them out on loan, I hope the powers that be make sure that the young player goes to a club where they play decent football.
