He was an out of control kid who did not understand how a professional footballer should behave. I once had a chat with Warnock who shedded a bit of light on one or two situations from that season. All were true as worked with a french girl who used to party with him Nasri a d Chamakh when they were at Arsenal.

Probably things that may have made it out to the general public in the past. Refusing to sign a new contract unless the club bought his brother a £65,000 Mercedes which they did. Being picked up by cabs at 2-3 in the morning before matches from shisha gaffs down Edgeware Rd Late to training consistently He was renting a house owned by Ray Wilkins in Barnes for a while and when he moved out and they sent cleaners in they found a ton of pizza boxes, Chinese cartons, burger wrappers etc under the bed and all around the place. Holding the club to ransom on a new deal for ridiculous money which he got and then basically downed tools. Don’t get me wrong he’s probably the most skilful player I’ve seen in the Hoops personally and absolutely loved watching the fella play but he’s a bit of a knob.

Met him a load of times as a Moroccan fella I know well used to cut his hair and he was a lovely fella, just not very professional and a shame as he wasted possibly his best years.

He definitely wasted his best years ric. No denying that. Terrible shame really.
Tis funny though, even when downing tools he probably still have us a couple of the best moments from that shite 12/13 season. If only he was properly on it that year.

he wasted possibly his best years. he did, unfortunately.
But in my time he's easily in the top three most skilled we've had. It's a rare and precious commodity.
Harry didn't have a clue how to handle problem players, if he had his way the starting line up average age would have been about 40.
The very fact that Warnock got a decent tune out of Adel consistently suggests that other gaffers could have coped, but Harry was never in that class.

He got a decent level of performance out of a few wrong'uns mate. Ravel Morrison played some good football under Redknapp, so did Assou-Ekotto. The problem with Adel is you need to pander to his ego whilst also turning a blind eye to all sorts of negatives in terms of effort and disruption to the squad. Remember that Warnock had to make him club captain and basically tell the whole squad to play along with an exercise of putting him on a pedestal to get that promotion winning season out of him. And even then, the wheels were starting to come off by the end of the season.

You have to bear in mind that if he hadn't been such a nightmare then he just wouldn't have ever signed for QPR and we would have been denied the sight of the finest technically gifted footballer I have seen at QPR since I started going in 1966. There were parts of the game that Stan & Rodney did that Adel never did, but there were parts of Adels game that the others could never do. We were blessed and lucky to have all three wearing the hoops but they all had their flaws which is probably why they were at QPR.

He held on to the ball for to long , never tracked back , his attitude stank but when he turned it on he was well worth the entrance fee the goal at home to Fulham ....magical

I still can't help but look back and wonder what could have been for Adel. Both in terms of him genuinely putting in a shift for us after promotion, and what could have been for his career if had done. In my eyes he was good enough for Barcelona or Real Madrid in terms of ability. Unfortunately that is only half the battle!

I would imagine that winning the Championship Player of the Year award followed up by QPR fans voting for Paddy Kenny as QPR POTY would have rankled; I know it would have pissed me right off and I believe I am a far more stable personality than AT was at the time.

Tells you a lot about the guys mentality and character in my opinion. Anyone with anything close to resembling a half decent attitude would have realised when his own team mates voted against him in that fashion that there was something very wrong with the way he was conducting himself.

Maybe but when you’ve either assisted or scored over 50 goals in our promotion season, think he’s entitled to be pissed off. I’d sulk too!

Loved Kenny but him winning that ahead of Adel was a travesty Paddy had 20 odd clean sheets in 40 odd games so did his bit. Players player is voted on the whole package and as mentioned on an earlier post Adel's attitude to training and teamwork was not the best. Wonderful player to watch and an absolute joy to witness that season but not a pro's pro.

Josh Scowen probably scored QPR's goal of the season this last year, Adel was scoring that standard of goal most weeks. Not diminishing what a complete twat he could be, but players at every club he has played at has said how he was the best player they had ever seen. He believed that the pitch was his kingdom and a match his battlefield. He went into every game believing he could win it on his own and never hid no matter what treatment he was getting. If he had trained and worked in the same way Cristiano Ronaldo works at his game and physique he would have been among the pantheon of the greatest players ever; he also would never have played for QPR. I wouldn't change a single thing about him whilst he was ours, for the absolute breathtaking joy he provided for 3-4 years with us. During that season that Andros Townsend joined us on loan, they were the only reason to turn up to games most of the time.

What was so special about Andros Townsend? Apart from sharing initials with Adel Taarabt, they didn´t have much else in common,IMO.

You could see the talent shine through, they were like diamonds in a goats arse that season. I used to go home and away back then and it was fucking hard at times to justify it but in their own way, when they played it made it worthwhile. They complimented each other.

Kenny won it becos of the clean sheets and his attitude I voted for him . You'd never know what Adel was turning up he could drive u mad when he wouldn't pass to a player in a better position

Both massive factors in us winning promotion, Doubt we had have gone up without Paddy's 24 clean sheets or without Adel's goals and assists. Kenny's save from Yakubu against Leicester being a prime example of why he was a great keeper for us

Way I see it, as good as Kenny was you don't go football games to watch goalkeepers....It's the Taarabts that get you on the edge of your seat
