I'd have him (as always, cost is key). If we can afford him, he is an upgrade on what we have so would be a good signing. On loan, no brainer. If he isn't interested then he can just go back.

He would be awesome coming off the bench,think of the impact he would have,the pens he would win and the fear in opposition defences.
Plus the entertainment value.

Plus the entertainment value. he doesn't play like that anymore though thats the thing. he's been solid for benfica as a holding midfielder/deep lying playmaker and puts in more tackles than shots at goal. heck, he's only scored 1 goal in 100 games for benfica. 32 now too so just wouldn't really do it as an AM especially after what ... 6 years? of any real playtime in that position. plus it'd mean dropping either chair or willock for the dream that he can replicate even half his form from before which imo is very unlikely. |

You kind of need either luck or a genius level manager to get him right though.
I think it was Bruno Lage who sorted him out to play deep at Benefica (Lage was the guy I wanted here post Ollie).
He as unlikely as Jack Wilshere, although the thought of those two on the same side is an entertaining one...

We should stop talking about this guy. Apart from the fact he can't be trusted to stay fit and keep himself motivated, his last contract with us was 50k a week. I suspect Benfica will be paying him something close to this, and he has a year left on his deal. To put things into perspective, this summer we will be looking to sign players earning about 10-15% of this salary. League 1 and league 2 is our hunting ground now, aside from the players coming through our academy. Ex top flight players are out of reach, unless they are prepared to take a huge drop in salary. Agree. Could see him at Cardiff though. why? |
