Dont know about Turkish days but remember Gerry put him and other players on strict diet and had LF on weights exercises to build him up
I used to talk to the Physio back in them days. BRIAN cant remember his surname only repeating what i was told.
Just came to me Morris was his name

Under the guidance of Gerry Francis it took longer for Ferdinand to gain the neccessary diet build, guile and stamina. And he never aquired the knowledge to be a successful DOF No

Those were the days when the modern thinking about diet, nutrition and training methods was taking off.

I hope all the optimism shown towards him turns into some big positives but I’m still not convinced by him. No doubt has strength and pace but the game is so much more than that. Is he really that promising? Play him over Donkey every time because at least he makes something happen, but he’s not the answer long term. Two big improvements in his game - no longer offside all the time (timed runs really well Saturday) and looks up to cross. Would have been an assist for the three points if Willock had kept his footing. In an ideal world if we could bring in two new strikers over the summer you would loan him out to a good league 1 side next season with the condition he plays every game when fit, or even somewhere abroad where they might be more into diet/ fitness/ condition coaching. Then we will find out if he really can be a 15 goal a season striker. My fear about him is that he has bulked up too much so he is too heavy. There is a reason why heavyweight boxers wouldn't make it as marathon runners.

So its not a quick fix. A bit of conditioning, attitude, how much he wants it all come into the equation. I still think he still has a bright future but in a world where people want it now, tolerance and patience are slim on the ground.

Is that three games in row he’s netted for Irish?

Only down as scoring one according to BBC

He scored two according to RTE. Joe Hodge also featured. Nice easy training for them = good for us.

Not to promote another site but a very interesting thread on LFW along same lines of what Jimmy asked regards if he is worthy of a contract extension.
Would appear patience is running out.

It doesn't help that we need him now because of the striker sanctuary we have amassed.

What has happened to him? Our most passionate player has looked uninterested for weeks now.

He seemed focused and sharp enough in short cameo today, I thought. Whatever cameo really means though.

Whether he’s any good or not is a debate but I am amazed HOW good some people think he is. Guy standing next to me today was drooling when he came on and after one touch (which was pretty decent tbf) that kept a move going he looked down at his daughter and said ‘he’s a fantastic player’.
No he isn’t.

I’m actually pleased to read he knows he’s underachieved hopefully means he works hard on areas he’s not so good at

So would you give him a contact extension??
I’m going to think of all the times I’ve watched him. His play. His ability. His attitude. His impact. His goal / assists. His overall contribution.
For me it’s a no.
I would let him go or sell whatever is our best option.
I do acknowledge, he probably wasn’t ever ready for this level which is slightly unfair on him but sometimes that’s the best way to learn and for me he just doesn’t offer enough. I feel there is some potential in there but not at championship level.
I’d be interested to hear others opinions.

Yeah I make that about right Jimmy.
In an ideal world we'd be talking loan, but the problem there is the contractual side of it ie who pays the wedge etc. Your league one teams might struggle if they had to bear 100% of the financial burden.
I think he'd come on a bit with the right loan, but the books have to be balanced and you have to ask yourself if he'd come on enough.

I just don’t see a lot of improvement since he first got into the side. Same mistakes, same issues, same lack of goals and assists and for me had adequate minutes. Got to draw the line somewhere. A loan won’t make him any better at this level IMO.

Am 50/50 on him. A lot depends on who else and how many we can bring in. Would be interested to see what he looked like after 40 games in league one. Marti taught him the offside rule so he can be coached. But he does struggle with some basics. A lot of young strikers who aren’t yet clinical enough are started out wide but he can’t dribble.

You’re right about who we bring in. If we can only afford one decent striker, then he definitely has to stay.
I’ve got a sneaky feeling Marti will want to keep the fucking jock.
Because he’s produced on the last couple occasions I think he’ll see him as dependable but we all know over time he dog shit. I really hope he’s seen enough to let go.
