Rodon and Ampadu have got a lot of plaudits this season. But JCS looks like the best centre back in this league at the moment. His level of performance in 2024 has been fantastic. What a player. Cook has also been magnificent and his impact is clear to see. For me Cook will probably get the captains armband but my choice now would be JCS. He’s another leader out there and our best player.

Fully agree and I hope we get another season out of Cook. He looks fit and is an absolute mountain at the back for leadership, positioning and all round good egg.

Wart-face was right when he said JSC was the best defender in the divison when fit. Just needs to add bringing the ball out of defence a bit more ala Dickie and he’d have it all.

Yes agree with you. We’ve seen signs of it but some times there is a load of green grass to carry the ball into and commit an attacker but passes. Would add another dimension to his game if he added that.

I’m happy for him to stay put and pass the ball. He’s our Van Dijk not John Stones. Excellent defender, don’t need him in midfield.

Excellent defender, don’t need him in midfield. if we want to improve and progress we need the players to do more or we just accept more of the same and mediocrity. No one is expecting him to do Stones midfield role but if there is space in front of him bring ball forward, take us up the pitch and pull one of their players out of position which then creates opportunities and space when he gives it. Why would you be against that?

Why would you be against that? Because it’s about the bigger picture - how competent is the team. So he strides out with the ball, Andersen gets caught in possession or Chair overplays or it bounces straight off Donkey then we’ve got our best defender upfield when caught on a break. He can create with a lovely pass or we’ve got others who can take the ball forward.

JCS says some great things about Marti, his teammates and the club. On his (possible) transfer:

keeping his options open which is understandable. he had a very good season but if we can get £7m+ for him we should grab it with both hands lol

agree to a extent, but we always seem to get bent over by buying clubs, about time we a bit more bold in our dealings. If a few want our assets , bloody pay for them. Problem is if we say reject 5m, he’s got 2 years left. If he doesn’t sign a contract, he’ll be worth less than 5m…..even if he has a good season. It's all relative imo. Say, for example, Marti gets us promoted next season, he'll then be a PL player anyway, which then puts the club in a stronger bargaining position. And before anyone jumps on such an absurd suggestion as us getting promoted, I'm only using it as an example that whilst unlikely is still possible. Point being it's a balancing act and nothing is clear cut. Meanwhile fans will speculate til the cows come home on all manner of possibilities. End of the day, if he DOES stay, most of us will be happy because it makes us a stronger team and so improves our chances of a higher finish, heaven forbid, even making a play offs push So if he does leave this summer I would definitely play hard ball for as high a fee as possible, as others have said too How ambitious are the board; how much will they back Marti; what's our budget like - all factors.

The fact is that its all profit,we still have to find a replacement.
If the board are as ambitious sell for max or tie him down to a longer contract.
We have to be more astute in our transfer dealings than the previous clowns.
