Think we’re going see what his role is as squad player. Plugs holes for cup games and when suspensions and injuries. I don’t think he’s a bad player and he will do a job as squad player. If your him you got be thinking what do I need to do to shine and show gaffer I’m worthy of starting week in week out. agree. there's something there with him, he's energetic, has a decent longshot on him and is decent on the ball. certainly good enough to carve out a successful career in league 1 but the jury is still out as to whether he can impact games in the championship

He’s not competitive enough for the Champ. Nor is Andersen. Contrast both with Smyth. He has nowhere near the touch on the ball they have but gets involved. If you want a player who just lets the ball do the work they’d have to be a bit better than EDB.

As Tarbie says might now be needed. We are suddenly looking very thin in central midfield without Hayden. Coleback suspended, Varane not looking ready, Andersen and Chair both injured. This is EDB's chance to shine. Whilst a season in League 1 might be good for his development, as the squad stands we can't afford to loan him out. For the next game even if Varane and Field get the nod over him to start, we don't have a single other available senior central midfielder and you need at least one on the bench. EDB one of those players who can seem to be slightly less than the sum of his parts, as he has natural ability. The warning with red flashing danger lights for him should be Dozzell - nice technically but no end product or fight, so was bombed out. Personally like to think he has a bit more about him and would really like him to step it up and fulfil his potential.

We all know his limitations and frustrations and in an ideal world he wouldn't be a starter but you can't fault his energy. I just wonder with Dembele and the Japanese lad around him whether we could get a tune out of him. Smyth's fault is his end product but instead if he uses his pace and determination to beat his man then plays it short to one of those two to do the fancy stuff, he may still have a role in this team. With Chair and Andersen both out for the duration we don't have a lot of options.

Agree your comparison EDB and Dozzell.

Has a poor touch.
Doesn't spray the ball about or make any mark on a game and is invisible a lot of the time.
Were Dozzell and Amos any worse?
He's not for me I'll be honest.

Smyth reminds me of Jamie Mackie. But without the class

Regarding Amos: He was finally finding back to form for us, but was injured a second time and the rest is history. Dixon Bonner, on the other hand, doesn't seem to believe in himself at all.

EDB is exactly what you’d think we are about - looks a decent athlete, can clearly play but needs work. Maybe he’s found his limit, maybe Champ is a step too far and his career is League 1?

Smyth reminds me of Jamie Mackie. But without the class Controversial opinion, but I couldn't stand Mackie. If the stands weren't there he'd be running down Ellerslie Rd most weeks. Saw himself as some sort of hero too. Ten a penny players like that. No malice towards him as he backs us just thought he was shite.

We are not good at picking potential. Just had a clearout and plenty still to go. People saw he was at Liverpool and automatically think we're onto a winner. Some of us more experienced fans would know how dangerous that mindset is just by the players we've had from Man Utd alone down the years. Every single one were shite. Literally.
