Perhaps he can be the cream of the crop. I really hope we don't farm him out on loan! 😂

Even if Fields replaces Ball, Ball is still good to have in the squad

I'm guessing he's more in the Dominic Ball mould than a midfield playmaker judging by his goals and assists stats. Apparently he's also been struggling with injuries and the after effects of Covid-19 this season. Don't want to write the guy off, but this one hasn't got me that excited.

Left footed CM who can also play DM and LM. So ticks all the right boxes in terms of what's needed.
It's proving to be a good window this.

This is the second one in in a couple of days with injury / health issues, but at the level we're operating at its either take a punt or shut up shop. The other thing is that you don't want too many utility players on the books otherwise it all goes a bit mix n match. Fingers crossed for him.
Looks like the 'medical team' are going to have earn their corn.

Definitely needed to add some depth in midfield with the injuries to Amos and lately Carroll. Squads looking better, in most areas now. Would like to see Jordy on the bench soon. Early in the game tonight Barbet did a slide tackle at the side of the box, when he got up he looked like he was in a bit of pain and was holding his shoulder. Straight away I was thinking, there’s no cover on the bench.

I really think this signing shows that Manager and DOF are clearly thinking ahead to next season rule regarding 20 man squad. 🤙
West Brom and Charlton fans liked this player.

Very favourable comments FYI. Baggies fans. All wishing him well and plenty saying there crazy allowing it be perm end of season as he’s got huge potential.
Never heard of him prior until he signed, like few recent signings, but suggests we’ve done our homework.
Also sign club is starting on transfer front operate with bit of professionalism as was no hints or leaks about this player just an announcement when deal is over the line, how it should be done

My only worry with this signing is where does it leave Battache..really feel for Battache as he looks a player in what’s been small cameos so far.
Don’t remember if he’s been out on loan elsewhere

That was a name that came out of nowhere, not on the shopping list rumour mill. I wonder if Charlie put in a word for him? Both injury-prone, maybe they got to know each other well on the West Brom physio's bench...

Bit surprised that they let him go as none of their managers have given him a run, yet always done well when played. Doesn't sound like a LM though.

Prob just means he's played there at some point in time. Being left footed will be useful though.

It’s good that he can provide cover in a couple of areas where the squad is thin, namely centre midfield and centre halve

Certainly seems a signing with potential. I'm just a little surprised that we are signing another defensively minded midfielder. It's an area we are well stocked already. What we are lacking are midfielders that can knock the ball around and create opportunities. Then again, if Field is better than what we have and isn't breaking the bank, I suppose it makes sense.

He’s still very young, 22y/o so still scope for improvement as well. I like the signing, adds a bit of depth to the squad and competition. Another couple of good signings in the summer and the squad will be looking strong and have good depth all around the park I do agree though a good experienced attacking midfielder to compete with Chair is needed in the summer. It will also be interesting to see what happens to the likes of Carroll and Johansen at the end of the season, if they will stay or go? You could potentially push Johansen further forward into an attacking midfield centre role to compete with Chair if he stays. It also will depend on what formation MW envisages playing, if he wants to stick with 3 at the back or go to a back 4. I personally would stick with a back 3.

Johansen is a good addition mate. But until Carroll returns to fitness, he's the only one who can sit in the middle, pick a pass and conduct things. Chair is a bit different in my eyes. Better pushed up behind the strikers and running with the ball at his feet.
I think we are well stocked with offensively minded midfielders, ok for strikers and defensive midfileders too. Its genuine central midfielder playmakers that we are thin on the ground. Like I say, Johansen is what we needed, but he's the only one til Carroll returns.

Sam Field would probably be a natural replacement for both Cameron and Johansen
Johansen signing on loan (wages at Fulham too high to consider on a permanent)
Cameron (retirement from English football)

Who knows, maybe MW is confident he can keep Johansen in the summer? But it’s true that the squad only really has Johansen as a midfield playmaker until Carroll returns to fitness.
