Delighted that for once, we are getting recruitment sorted out early. In theory it should make everyone feel far more settled than the usual rushing around chasing scraps in desperation during August.

I keep reading each week this stats saying that Field has had a blinding game with 90% pass accuracy or whatever. Am I missing something? He hasn't looked very effective for months now to me. I mean, even I could pass it accurately if I knocked it back to the centre half each time. Wd be interested to see some stats on how many successful forward passes he has made. Might be being unfair, genuine question. This is just proof that the stats rarely tell more than half the story. As you say, your pass accuracy stats are going to look impressive if 95% of the passes you make are 5 yards sideways or back to the keeper. Not really his role though, is it? He's a DM whose job is mainly to tackle and break up play. |

I thought Field has looked to pass the ball forwards much more in the last two games, probably more as a result of the formation change and having more mobile players around him.
I’ve also been critical of his performances this season but do accept he has been fire fighting alone on lots of occasions.

i'm a big fan of field and personally think he gets a lot of unneccesary stick. much better option than ball, good on the ball and intercepts a lot of passes too.
not the flahiest but i like the idea of a midfield trio of him, dozzell and amos in the future.

Certainly ain't his role to be playing killer balls etc. I also don't necessarily think he's as influential or integral to the team as you might think looking at his stats. |

I like field personally think he’s worth his place inside. Does lack pace and I do wince when I see people running away from him but that why he’s picked up 14bookings

Warbs says Ball needs to be better than Field to win his place back. Field concedes possession less than Ball and in that regard I agree with Warbs.

Puts a shift in for sure. Probably looks a better player when the creative player next to him is doing his job well, which hasn't been the case for most of this season. An improvement from Ball and an adequate defensive midfielder at this level. That's about as far as I'd go having watched him play week in week out for a year or so.

His job is to put tackles in, break up play. He is literally everywhere and he also dives in with crucial blocks. I think next season with full pre-season behind him, he’ll be one of our top performers. |
