I wish we had announced Varane before the game - if he watched that and the lack of creativity he might have changed his mind

hopefully turns out to be a good signing. could maybe do with one more as we only have 4 CM's, colback is well off the pace and EDB still finding his feet so bringing in a loan would be good.

A lot of expectations from a player no one has seen play. Yes expectations but also - a lot of expectations from a player you have not seen play, probably just like our new keeper, Santos, maybe Celar if you did not see him play in the Euro's and others we have just signed and should I add Marti as a coach who most had never heard of. The important thing is the club, scouts, coaches and these days analysts have seen him and researched his ability. He was brought up and developed in the traditional Spanish way in Sporting Gijon's second team who play lower league football before breaking through to their first team and playing 39 times last season .We have reportedly tracked him since January so I'm sure someone has seen him play. Some describe him as box to box which is true but he is stronger in defence so I can see him replacing Colback The question is do we hope and trust the clubs management to sign the right players . If we are signing players like Celar who are current internationals and have just played at the Euro's (unlike Dykes or Armstrong) we are right to have expectations - of course they could flop and we will all be disappointed but being a glass half full man I at least start with positive expectations.

I like the fact we're not doing our historical thing and signing up players who are gone ( for some reason Park / Brett Angel / Rio come to mind ) and we're not obsessed with EFL and long past it prem onna free.

tbh if varane comes good i'd prefer him over hayden. very similar players but varane is much younger and will be on much less wages.

Unusually, no comments yet from Marti or Nourry about this signing. Nothing on the official, unless I've missed them elsewhere?

Trying to find out how tall he is to see what kind of physical presence he’ll be but sites suggest between 5’7 and 6’3!! … More sense out of Del, Rod and grandad.

He's probably seen by the club as a Hayden replacement (and younger too). Remains to be seen if that bears out.
