Was it a mistake letting him go?

No he needed to progress his career
And none of our managers fancied him
Pleased hes doing very well
Some players just do not fit
Bit like Shopido

Two divisions below us - but top scorer in the division and riding high in 1st place.

Keeping Kelman out the Leyton Orient team too.

I always liked him (a striker in the Tony Cottee mould). It could be argued he never got a proper run of games, albeit with successive managers.

no, found his level. might be good enough for league 1 but lets remember that he's 25 years old and has scored 7 in 15. a good tally yes but hardly one that will have championship clubs taking notice of him.
if he does make it back to the championship then good for him but i won't view it as we've missed out.

Fair play to him, always had something about him and always put a shift in. This is how it works though isn't it? Players sometimes need to drop a division or 2 to get a run out games and find some form.

Working for Harry Kane didn’t it mate 4-5 loans
Then best English no 9 not bad
Was coming to Rangers at one point I think

You can’t put a price on confidence. Some of the twats on Twitter would do well to remember that when they cunt off a player who’s not cutting it at a particular point in their career.

Was it a mistake letting him go? no not even close to being good enough if we want to do anything. Then why has Dykes played very close to 100 games for us, I would suggest it’s only because we paid £1.9m for him and next to nothing for Smyth.

Are you genuinely suggesting Smyth is as good as Dykes Sparks?
I know Lyndon has been pony for long spells of his time here, but he's far more equipped for the Championship than Smyth was at his time with the club. The guy was so lightweight he looked like a gust of wind could have knocked him over.
I'm glad for Smyth, but let's not kid ourselves that he was good enough.

I would take Smyth every day over Dykes in our current formation I’m sick to the back teeth of hearing he works defenders 🙄 and helps with defending set pieces, he’s the weakest link in this team right now.

It's a mad one because I don't think he's up to this level and is super lightweight but Dykes is so shit I'd probably do the same

he was given chances elsewhere though, he spent a good 2-3 years out on loan and in 69 games scored 9 goals. not exactly tearing the place up at a much lower standard.
i liked smyth, he was pacey and worked hard but lets not pretend he's some missed gem.

Post by Tarbie on Oct 31, 2022 13:12:39 GMT
Ok, let's take opinion out of this discussion and look at raw facts.
Lyndon Dykes has made 93 QPR appearances scoring 27 goals.
Paul Smyth made 23 QPR appearances and scored 2 goals. Even since dropping down 2 divisions to get a game, Smyth has only scored 10 in 43 appearances.
Regardless of what you think of Dykes, he has proven to be far more effective than Smyth at putting the ball in the net!

I was never given any proper chance. Hundreds of thousands weren't. That's the name of the game. If you give all your youth and squad players a proper chance you will never play your best 11.

He was given chances on loan, reserves and in training with multiple managers, who deemed him not good enough.
Doing well, and good luck to him but that doesn't mean he's going to do well if he were here now. Washington looked good in leaguyes below. We have another player in Kelman who I would rather give time to.
