So you keep saying, but a pointless comment really GT if you're honest, as exactly the same applies to any of our better players.

26 today. Never realised he was that old surprised it’s taken this long to break through Still relatively young for a keeper though. Hopefully we keep him long term. Agree to an extent. Young for a goalkeeper but still very old to be just breaking through. At 26 he's a full on professional, likewise with our other GK. Been very impressed with him though, he looks a cut above the other 2 though Lumley appears to be doing well in L1. Probably his level really.

I know he’s just extended but he’s clearly very very good and will be in demand in a year or so. Let’s not get caught out in a BOS or Manning situation again. Get another couple of years in his contract so we hold the cards.
In football once your down to two years left power is with the player

Doncaster Rovers honestly couldn't believe their luck when he went on loan there. Probably wondering why on earth we did that, especially given his age.
And to think we were pissing about with Lumley and Kelly all that time, and conceding all those needless goals.

Hard to know if he was a late bloomer or we'd just not realised how good he was (probably the former, would be criminal if the latter). His career is odd. 40 odd games for Grasshoppers 2nd team and a few games on loan in the Swiss 2nd division. Then we'd loaned him out to some really low level clubs.
I'd suspected Dieng and Hämäläinen were both good enough for the 1st team having them play a few times in Scotland. Said it at the start of the season they were the only 2 players at the club outside the 1st team that could improve our 1st team. Still not convinced I was right on Niko. Started well, but he's probably only just about a Championship player from what I've seen. But Dieng so far has exceeded all of my expectations. He looks a very good keeper.

dieng was brilliant last night and has been all season. i know he's only played 20 or so games for us but he's our best keeper since smithies and the first keeper that i'm confident in in years. no matter what shot comes at him you know he had a good chance of saving it.
i can only think of one or 2 goals we've conceded this season where i've thought that he could have done better. there's been countless other saves he's pulled off that have been spectacular with last night probably being his best game for us.

Has been said before, and I know Westy won't agree with me, but (apart from being a better keeper) Dieng has had the advantage of being able to concentrate on keeping goal and not worrying about his ball skills...or lack of them.

First time I saw him was Wimbledon away pre season couple of seasons back. He was just warming up in front of away end and his hands were like magnets. Thought then he’s a player.
Sometimes you can just tell who is going standout and who will not

The long boots which went straight out for throws would have stayed in?

My point is that MW made Lumley worse by destroying his confidence using him in a role he couldn't cope with. The call was for Lumley in the team at first. He was never as bad as MW made him. Heaven forbid he tries to get Dieng to play football. We've got ten others to do that.

He went down hill after getting kicked in the head at villa not being asked to pass the ball every now and then. Based on your response you would happily surrender possession of the ball every time Lumley had it instead of him passing it.
He was not being asked to do stepovers , drag backs, beat players etc he was being asked to pass it left, pass it right and pass it centre Jesus Christ is that to much to expect for someone getting what 3k a week as a bloody professional footballer?!
He’s an ok keeper who like many previous QPR players has been hyped up once again above his actual ability. IMO his decline is fuck all to do with manager (you blame him for everything) and everything to do with himself.
If the manager wants me to pass the ball and I’m not quite there guess what I’m going to do I’m going work harder so I am better simple

As good as Smithies, possibly even Kenny if he continues like this. So begs the question why was he not in the team earlier? He genuinely may not have been ready mate. Look at his history and how little 1st team football he'd ever had. Same could be said of Lumley to be fair though. Dieng wouldn't be the first Goalkeeper not to come into his own til his mid-20's. Look at Emi Martinez. Only getting 1st team football now at 28, and he looks genuinely world class.
