How many anti English songs ,do Ireland sing ? Fucking loads . The only songs English fans sing are anti IRA songs ,I have no problem with that . Ive never heard an anti Irish song in my life . 'The famines over why don't you go home' Nothing to do with the IRA and a disgusting song to sing. Have heard it first hand on plenty of occasions. Not a song ive ever heard ,and ive attended many England games and watched matches in pubs in South East London ,in areas that where the NF had strong support . But as i said Jim ,how many anti English songs ,old Rebel songs do /did the Irish sing ? People in glass houses etc

Don't forget why the official IRA (not the Provos) of years gone by was created. We'd all stand up to defend our land, people and country right?

Throughout my life ,i grew up ,like you ,with Irish terrorists bombing the city i grew up in . They came very close to taking out ,immediate family members of mine in the Regents Park nail bombing . As you say , this is a political debate ,which we will never agree on . But you are QPR and very good poster .

ive worked with west indians, and they hated africans, said lazy dirty etc, then the st lucians hated the jamaicans as same as the africains. in usa the north think they above the south and all inbred rednecks etc. Just a few examples really of world is basically tribal. Its not racisim its just everyone thinks they better than everyone else.In caveman times you would club the other tribe to death, now u just slag them off with words that can hurt instead. in some ways we have come on leaps and bounds as a race of humans, but the primal urges are still under the surface.we have phones ,culture, fire transport etc etc,but are only a quick snap away from being cavemen and killing etc.

Just a thought but how about the teams who’s fans are playing up take the lead and walk off the pitch first. There was blatant racism by a group of Bulgarian fans last night so their team could have led the way. That would surely have more of an effect.

As usual their manager said he didn't hear anything, even though the game was stopped twice. Not sure what he though that was for. Turning a blind eye doesn't make it go away.

Surely the easiest solution, should it happen, is for the referee to get the players off, get the stadium emptied and resume the game soon afterwards. And in addition, get full agreement of all countries that any repeats will result in either expulsion from competitions or made to play behind closed doors for a number of years. Best solution mentioned so far IMO. Whether Čeferin and Infantino have the balls to do it is another matter. Fines are ineffective. Only things that hurt are points deductions, bans or playing behind closed doors - especially in light of England's statement not working out last night.

England fans belt out the National Anthem and get the words wrong, so do the players. In fact most people do these days.

Watching the game on TV I didn't see any England fans giving Nazi salutes last night, but I saw plenty of Bulgarian fans doing it.

England fans were singing 'racist bastards, you know what you are' and I bet some of them were Scum fans.... You couldn't make it up really.

I didn't watch the game, was the racist chanting as bad as some have made out? I've heard it described by some as the worst they've ever seen. I find that quite hard to believe, even comparatively to how some grounds were here when I first started going to matches in the 80's. Eastern Europe has been terrible for this kind of behaviour for a long time now. It's nothing new to go to Ukraine, Poland, Serbia, Bulgaria etc. and hear horrible stuff coming from the stands.
It's a bit a double edged sword, isn't it? Great to see action actually being taken about this type of behaviour. But I can't help but think some of the talk in the build up about the team walking off etc. probably made this type of situation far more likely to unfold. Morons will always be morons, and there are fair few that follow football. If you talk extensively in the build about expecting racism, then they probably won't let you down!

Irish football fans don't sing any songs about England. I was in a bar ,on holiday during the world cup a few years ago ,and the rebel songs were being belted out . In a bar, not at the stadium though. Jack Charlton used to play rebel songs on the bus to games for the Irish squad and half of them were English.

Personally I don't think sectarian songs have a place in modern culture. A relic from the past that should have really been phased out in the 1980's!

I posted a link to The Billy Boys on my Celtic supporting mates Facebook wall after Celtic lost to Livingstone at the weekend. All in the name of banter though. It's actually a pretty appalling song when you listen to the words and understand the context!

At no point did I say it was racist , I was just replying to 72s post , that Irish fans do actually sing anti English songs . Which they do .
