I will never be convinced that a club of our size needs a DOF but if we're going to have one at least make it someone who knows what they're doing. Les didn't and its not a position you can lean on the job either. Les in hindsight was A DOF in name only. Every manager brought in their own players which is at odds with how it should work and typical rangers. The only people I suspect were Les signings were the unknown kids like Duke, Armstrong Bonner etc Disagree it's "in hindsight". Agree with the rest.

It seems les was something a bit more like an Andy Sinton brand ambassador than a genuinely powerful DoF. The whole point of a DoF is he ensures continuity of playing style and manager and player recruitment but we veered around all over the place. If there was a strategy it was never stuck to. But if you are going to give the manager whatever he wants and then change the manager every five minutes you might as well sack the so-called DoF or simply call him club ambassador and pay him 50k a year to turn up on Saturdays rather than 500k.
Given our owners are clueless I think we badly need a DoF. But given the same owners are so clueless they wouldn't listen to him, its also probably a waste of money. Catch 22.

His record suggests he knows what he’s doing, he’s worked here before. Les didn't and its not a position you can lean on the job either. Agree, and if we have one we don’t need a DoF AND Ramsey. I see why big clubs have one but don’t tell me people like Mourinho, Klopp, Guardiola and the like don’t bring in their own players. Who’s the DoF that knows more than Guardiola?

Big difference in the last two cases is those guys are in the job for a decade. Not sure Mourinho is a good example to hold up as he gets sacked every two mins after spending tens of millions on players.

Who’s the DoF that knows more than Guardiola? man city have txiki begiristain and liverpool have some german guy. txiki was at barca for years though. thing is DOF's are very important to modern football and a good one can dictate how successful a club actually is and the signings they make as is the case with man city, brighton and brentford.

I would argue a DOF is even more important at our level more so then top flight as they have the money to sign players and get it wrong without it having a significant impact, we don’t.
On the basis we have a squad made up of Warburton players, Beale players and Ainsworth players in only the last 15 months alone, before Marti adds his own players in Jan I think that screams loudly exactly why a club like ours needs a proper effective DOF.
We have a disjointed squad of three managers pickings. we’re like the raggy dolls.
Critchley only never got players as he joined after the window closed.

Jimmy has posted this in the DoF thread, with Sayce referring to "a former member of club staff". So I guess that's the clue.
