Are people seriously championing a back five of Dieng no experience Kakay next to no experience Masterson no experience Dikies next to no experience Hammer the fin no experience Would get ripped apart and the manager would get the blame for not putting a defence together. We have actually defended reasonably well this season the problem is scoring I am!

Really? 4 out 6 games we have defended quite well, I agree. Is there still room for improvement? Yes, absolutely. The points made about Masterson stand. If you think Barbet should be picked ahead of him I respect your view even if several disagree with it. The problems at the other end of the pitch is a separate issue, but I agree with you there too.

Wallace's penalties were criminal for an experienced player and, as someone posted elsewhere, Barbet plays like he's half asleep - how long before you at least try something? If Grabban was half as good as he's made out to be there would be a much bigger debate going on. Kakay and Dickie aside we still look like a chaotic bunch of kids at times. According to the table we've only played one decent team so far too.

I would have Masterson all day long in front of Barbet as there is improvement where Barbet is average and never going to be any better. Agree with Alan the bloke is not switched during the game. Was concerned about the keeper havibg to defend behind that back line and that still stands especially after the Preston game. To be fair to Dieng he has come in and looks more assured than the other two which may well be one of the reason's that our defending has been half decent.

No complaints when we ship goals then cricks ๐ Always. I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach when we ship any goal. Current defensive line up has cracks in it. Give the youngsters a chance, let's see what they've got. It's as likely to yield the same results as not changing. Barbet and Wallace have question marks over them at the moment. If we lose we lose. At least we'd be looking for ways to improve and find out more about what the youth are made of.

I was wondering what was going to happen to him. Too good and young to not be playing but not quite at this level for week in week out yet. Good move all around.

Invaluable relegation struggle experience. We'll need that in the future. Good thinking by management. Let's hope he can get into Swindon's team.

Connor Masterson could be out for 10/12 weeks due a Hamstring injury sustained whilst playing for Swindon Town

Has only played 3 games so do we send him out on loan again?

Has only played 3 games so do we send him out on loan again? Good question. 2 years left on his deal, will be 23 in a few months. 24 appearances for us and 5 for Swindon (including sub appearances) in 2020/21. I'd say we should be probably utilising him in the first team squad next season. Wouldn't hugely surprise me if we put him out on loan til January though. His season effectively ended start of February cos of injury.

think he needs another loan. there's certainly a player in there but he doesn't quite seem ready yet. especially if we're hoping to have a genuine crack at the playoffs next season

Firstly he did OK when chucked into a side which simply didn't do defending in any meaningful sense. No amount of loaning is going to teach him more than having been in the middle of that dog's breakfast and witnessing the carnage at first hand. Secondly I'd sooner have him bench than some of the names that have been bandied about recently, and it would leave a few shekels and a packet of peanuts to sort out the WB area where we deffo do need one reinforcement.

As well as needing him till Jan (when we might finally bring in a striker?) problem with loans is we send out seemingly promising players, normally to much lower league clubs, and they just disappear. Betache, who I was starting to rate a couple of seasons ago, someone said last week was on the bench for a national Conference side. Wd like to think we have better coaches here, and he is getting some game time. Masterson is one that I thought looked like he might be good enough but doesn't appear to have got much out of his loan spells. Reading this recent interview with Connor Masterson you would have to say he feels like his loan spells have been good for his confidence Tarbie, so much so it appears he was one of the players that MB yesterday said had to be persuaded to stay. I saw him play in a U21 game and thought he looked very good, albeit he was partnered by Salter. www.the42.ie/what-happened-next-for-one-of-the-stars-of-stephen-kennys-ireland-u21-team-5899910-Oct2022/

I saw Masterson received two yellow cards today in the U21 game against Ipswich, will that sending off prevent him being selected for first team duty if required?
