Really like the way we defend in numbers now
Everyone back defending exactly how it should be
He has definatly made defence and midfield more solid
Last season teams were running straight through it

Yes, Beale said the other day that Armstrong needs to build up more game time and plans to play him more in the U21s. Strong looking line up that. Won’t be seeing Armstrong Thomas or Shodipo tomorrow if they started tonight

Fancy Roberts to start scoring soon too He’s got at least 25 games to impress……..😁 Seemed to divide opinion at Millwall but no denying ball stayed up top longer. I’d keep him in, no question.

I’d keep him in, no question. the game was end to end Al. He had as much impact and influence on the game midweek as Dykes normally does. They had 60% of the ball that’s not a sign of it sticking up front. He deserves few run outs in the position as it’s accepted Dykes is not the answer but don’t think we should be bigging up his effort midweek as a step forward as it was not. Hopefully it works out today against different opposition.

I just don’t think he looked as dangerous as he has leading line as he had playing behind. He’s not a back to goal player imo but as said needs few run outs grow into it I suppose
He’s a stop gap so fair enough but my god I hope the club are pulling their finger out behind the scenes trying identify someone who can do the role properly

I just don’t think he looked as dangerous as he has leading line as he had playing behind. That's because he, like everyone else at the club, is not a natural 9. We don't do those, although most clubs find it useful to have one stashed away somewhere. On the plus side it means we're kind of playing an interchangeable front three, sort of false 9 lite, and that could work really well.

I said in the Wall match thread that it really looks like we're playing a 4-3-3. If that's the plan (until at least January) then it could work without using a natural 9 because we've clearly shown we can score goals this season without the need for one. And if that IS the case then Roberts certainly fits the bill.

And if that IS the case then Roberts certainly fits the bill. Remember saying before we'd played a game that 4-3-3 was where we'd be headed, only because Mick's background suggested that. You don't need a 9 if you have a front three with good movement who interchange, and that can make defending difficult. It's just ironic that he's ended up being forced to go in the direction he probably wanted all along. He maybe felt duty bound to give LD a chance.

I think Dykes will play today. Stoke are big bullies and Dykes will be more for them to handle than Roberts.

And if that IS the case then Roberts certainly fits the bill. once roberts adapts to staying in the box more it will work imo. he played more like an AM against millwall at times to the point that laird was filling in as a striker whilst chair, willock and roberts played keepsies in the corner. in the same breath though i don't think its really a huge deal as we get so many players in the final third anyway. roberts is far better with the ball than dykes and gets into space. dykes needs an extended spell coming off the bench for the final 20-30 minutes where he can make an impact like he did against millwall just so he can 'relearn' what to do in an easier environment.

Neil was very confident and perhaps slightly gobby in his pre match video, said again we play different to any other team in the Championship.
I’m guessing Field drops out in place of Amos.

Interesting background from the start but QPR bit starts on 4:30 if you want to skip forward. We "play a different style to anyone else in the whole division" he says:
