Looked suited to the three when we switched last week. Agree Alan, Looks very weak as a defender in a flat back four.

Cannot play 2 centre halves with him as one of them. Was bullied on Saturday by Garner and his tracking for the 2nd goal last night sums him up so far. Easy on the eye as a ball player but a woeful defensive defender. Hi friendly Bee here, again. Think you're finding out why we didn't renew his contract. He is much better playing left side in a back 3 than central in a flat back 4. He played most his games for us in a 3 or at left back in a flat 4.

a woeful defensive defender. That's ironically tautologous, 73. He is much better playing left side in a back 3 than central in a flat back 4. He played most his games for us in a 3 or at left back in a flat 4. Yeah, I remember you warning us about that.

He is no defender good with the ball maybe, Take a look at his pitiful effort of tracking the runner for the 2nd goal last night

Are we blaming Barbet for BFG's errors now? BFG for the pen and both of them were too slow for the second goal.

No pointing out the guy is no defender and better in a three rather than a flat back four. And him tracking back and lack of effort is irelevant to BFG. Not the pen but the 2nd goal.

Cheers for that as he seems comfortable with the ball but lacking basis defensive know how as two pens conceded in the league show. Was bullied last weekend as well by the beast that is Joe Garner.

Happy with BFG in the side. More good than bad and Hall and Barbet too similar. Works as a three.

We all know he is slow and that got exposed last night. He is still the commanding presence I think we need in there. Not one clean sheet yet is quite telling.

He tried his best, even if at fault. There's not much he could have done about it other than anticipate more effectively. Barbet, however, lost his man, didn't look for him, and, seeing BFG was beaten, ambled back in a light jog. Jesus.

Warbs saw on Saturday that by ditching his 4-2-3-1 for a 3-5-2, he got the best out of Barbet and it reduced the sloppy defensive errors. And it included BFG. I doubt this fact will have been lost on him, seeing as he instigated the change for that very reason.

I personally don't think we are giving our central defenders much of a chance at present. None of Barbet, Hall or Leistner are blessed with much pace or agility, yet the manager insists on playing a really high line. All it takes is a pacey striker and a ball over the top and all hell breaks loose. This has been a factor in I think 2 of the pens Barbet's given away.
I like what Warburton is trying to do in terms of playing style, but he has also got to be conscious of what he has to work with. All well and good asking our defenders to get the ball down and play, and to hold a high defensive line, but if that's the route we are going we need to expect individual errors at the back to occur pretty frequently!

I like like personally. Have people forgotten what went before him
What are the three pens he’s given away 72 can think of two??

Positional sense more to blame than high line, hall has his faults but rarely gets done for pace. Adams, Terry not quick but rarely exposed. Barbet consistently switches off and loses his man. 2nd goal last night prime example, jogging back oblivious to the threat either side of him.

On what he has shown so far he is no better than Lynch as he has offered nothing as a defender in a defensive capicity. Nothing to do with pace or how he passes it purely down to his lack of awareness and being out of position as highlighted by his dismal show of defending for the 2nd goal last night.

Seems to be costing us virtually a goal a game with mistakes.
Needs dropping for me.

Warbs analyses the video after games. He'll be as acutely aware of this as us lot. Surely?

I think we are a bit harsh on Barbet @ Co now. Let the different constellations get used to each other before we judge them too hard.

Simply not good enough to not make an effort.

TBH it looked to me more like a lack or awareness of the danger around him, than just laziness. He seems to lack basic defensive skills and awareness, Plays nice long cross field passes but does not track runners or know what is going on around him. Better in a three than a flat back four.
