I still remember his debut when he scored a wonder goal v Cardiff. At the time I thoguht we've got a real prospect on our hands. From most of what I'm hearing he's bulked up, got fitter and I think this is a good signing in the straitened circumstances we find ourselves in. and maybe not in a good way from the pix I've seen.... Charlie Austin was a big influence on him

If the lad hadnt played for us before people would be excited. Player from the lower leagues that previous clubs fans loved. Only 25, pace and a winger. It’s the QPR way to damn him before he’s even laced his boots. Weirdly I think it is the total opposite. If we didn't already know what he's about / have an allegiance to him, we would be up in arms at signing a League 2 forward who's scored 14 goals in 68 games in the last 2 seasons at that level.

Possibly but he’s mostly been played as a winger at Orient. 11 goals last season and was voted fans POTY. He also got their goal of the season. Not too shabby.

It’s the QPR way to damn him before he’s even laced his boots. But he has laced his boots with us for several seasons and we know what to expect: Big difficulties with Championship defenders. Now we have two runners up front. One strong one with Armstrong and lightweight one with Smyth. Will be interesting to see if they get playing time and if they do, which one will be better?

O’s fan here. Just my view of Smyth He was our best player last season, clearly way too good for L2. Some of his goals were out of this world, what you pay the admission fee for. We’re sorry to lose him but we can’t compete with a 3 year contract in the Championship. The downside is he was very injury prone with us. Appearances are misleading, it’s minutes on the pitch. First season was almost a write off. Last season was good up to Xmas. He got injured again and post Xmas think he hardly scored in his limited appearances. For QPR it’s a great gamble, if we pushed the boat out and gave him 3 years and he got crocked in August it would be a disaster on our limited resources. I hope he does really well for you guys, he has a great personality and he’s a tough little nut on the pitch. Wellens managed his game time well and GA will have to do the same. All the best for this season, will be looking out and hope Smyth does really well, he deserves it.

Cook Colbain Fox Berkovic Smythe Have galvanised the team Cook & Colback both big improvements. Fox is very very very average IMHO and will soon be dislodged form the side. Smyth doing OK tbf (albeit had to score Saturday...). Begovic another good signing, steady pro. Smyth, really? I was bollocking him the whole match. Is ok going forward but cannot cross, cannot hit the target and does not look up. Defending, he is lazy and he got done by their left winger every time. A rwb he is not.

There is a place for his energy as it’s been lacking few seasons. Defending I think worst part of his game as wingers run off him as he switches off. Not a big fan but equally not anti him.

Smyth defending was very poor but would like to wait a couple of games to see how he develops.

Shouldn't be used as a WB. Defending definitely not his strength. Much more effective higher up the pitch.

i think he's been pretty good so far tbh, definetly an improvement on kakay at RWB. lacks a bit in defence but could learn that side of the game, he's a hardworking player afterall.

Unlucky not to score Saturday , plenty of effort and desire lacks polish.

I'm not unhappy with him so far, looks a good little player though yet to hit his stride imo. Given more game time I'm sure he'll sharpen up.

He is no world beater, but has an assist or 2 and got himself into some good positions Saturday (as I said above though he had to score 1 of them, when he hit the bar). He is def better further up the pitch though, RWB isn't for him.

He's certainly no defender, he's put in some good crosses going forward though and isn't afraid to run at defenders. I'd like to see him given a go behind Armstrong but not sure his hold up play would be as good as Dykes. That said, in his interview after the game he did admit thats the position he's been asked to play and his defensive work needs sharpening up.

Smyth, oh dear. Traffic cone called Smyth. He is utter turd. Ipsbitch, Southampton and now today, he was raped repeatedly down our right. He is not good enough for this league. Has he ever played as a wingback in his career? I think he's fine as a winger but certainly not as a defender without some serious concerted coaching. In the absence of that I'd be wary of continuing him in that role. Incomparable to Paal on the opposite side, who is experienced in the position.

tbh i don't mind him as RWB. he makes mistakes but we don't really have a better option and he's been an assett going forward at times this season.

One assist Corbs. When you say asset going forwards what else am I missing?

I am not to sure what Ainsworth is trying to do with him and where he sees his best position.

Took to the cleaners today. Again.
Adds very little IMO.
I thought he’d come back more experienced, smarter & increased confidence but unfortunately he looks lost most games.
A couple of 10 yard runs with the ball at his feet just isn’t enough.
Where are his shots on goal? His assists? His balls across the box for players to attack?
Massive room for improvement.

But OTOH a fortnight ago at Boro when, crucially, we had 11 men, he actually had a good game. His fundamental problem is he's a round peg being shoved into a square hole by Ainsworth and Dobson, in the WB role, when he's never played that position in his life before this season.

One assist Corbs. When you say asset going forwards what else am I missing? looks dangerous going forward. he tore middlesbrough apart and was very good at southampton. as i said though we don't really have any other options to improve on. drewe likely isn't good enough, adomah is past it and kakay is a poor RB. yes smyth isn't great defensively but going forward he offers something and works hard.

When Dunne is fit. We can play 3 of Dunne, Fox, JCS, and Cook. Kakay can play rwb and Smyth moved further up or bench.

I actually feel for him. Very harsh to suggest he's dogshit because going forward he's pretty good imo. He absolutely isn't a defender which is why he's struggled, because Gaz insists on playing him out of position. This is on Gaz, not Smyth.

Puts in more effort in a minute that Willock does in a month. Good lad. But can some fucker tell him to show a right footed left winger inside.
