"I´d be up there like a shot": oi, carroll, nooooooooooooooooooooo "I admire your uncanny ability to get a high pass completion rate by passing the ball seemlesly back to the defenders and goalie without turning your head, and your fine singing voice, but that is not an excuse for those poor forward passes, that´s ruining our counter attacks, you filthy deranged Swansea-reject. I´d give him a slap!"

Honestly, most of the criticism I've seen here is pretty groundless. Seems to be mainly based on a prejudiced perception of his stint with us 7 years ago. Very different player now. Obviously he's no world beater but I do believe some are just seeing what they want to see. Some of his passing, off the ball work and link up play against Derby was excellent (and not just that game but several before too) and yet he's barely had any credit. On the contrary, just scathing remarks.
Notice too how he always has his head up and always aware of what's around him. It's also partly down to a lot of his role is the unnoticed and yet vital kind of midfield work. People also overlook that there's actually no one else in the squad who can perform that role, including Ball and Cameron. They're both different types of players with other strengths, and besides, you need two central midfielders anyway, even if one is more advanced and one deeper.
Rant over! 😂

I’m guilty of being one of those critics Stan who judged opinion of his signing on his performances first time round. He has defo evolved and I can see value he brings to the team.
He’s steady, never going to be a world beater or dance round three four players but he has his role.
Thought midweek was his best effort in our shirt

Problem I have with these stats is that a pass back to Barbet, run across the back four, collect it and give it Kane etc. all counts as successful passes but go nowhere. 4 key passes would have got people questioning Luongo's place in the team.

Bit harsh saying he’s passing backwards. Think your basing that opinion in the Main when he was here first time round. I think he’s more forward thinking currently from what I’m seeing this far

Not really mate, I just don't see him threatening often enough. You agree, rightly, that our strikers don't get the service so one key pass (presumably that means attacking or dangerous) every 20 mins is disappointing. I'm no great fan of stats as you know😁... Can make them say what you want. One prem team yesterday, think it was Brighton, never left their hotel according to the stats but got all the points.

What about wingers and chair that’s their primary role. Would argue Carroll primary role is to retain and circulate the play if he can open up teams all the better. Key passes he was No1 of both sides on pitch. What more could he do as that suggests he offered more then our creative players and Watford’s. I’m not his biggest fan but can appreciate role he’s playing and look beyond how he performed first time with us. Far superior player now

Not singling him out just responding to the stats post.

I thought the majority of the 9 crosses Carroll put in were sublime. Pity there was no one on the end of them.

The assist for Dykes (though ruled off) was brilliant. Carrol looked good. You can't make something happen without movement so I think he did well. Not really sure what some people are expecting from him? Or anyone in the deeper role?
Keeps possession and looks for a forward pass when it's possible. Can't build if he just aimlessly pumps it forward to no one.

I think Carroll was one of our best players on Saturday. He looks far more effective than when we last had him.

So for that role he does it really well and has been a good and astute signing.

I almost hated him during his previous stint but he has improved and I understand his role now. A much better version of him plays in the other Rangers, though.

Not impressed at all first time round snd if honest expected more of the same. But can see he’s evolved and developed into better player then I had previously watched Not a game changer but very steady, prob a 6/7 out of ten week in week out

A basic requirement of a deep lying M/F player should be the ability to win the ball in a challenge..Carroll is currently a stop gap in that position as he’s certainly unable to meet that requirement so as said before a luxury player.

That's how it's usually seen. But have a look at Glen Kamara, for example. Never wins a challenge but is the best defensive player in Finnish national team as he keeps possession extremely well, especially under pressure. Think Carroll has a similar role.

TC plays to safe for me , cant stand all that 20 passes and still have the ball in our half. you kind of know what hes going to do with the ball before he does it , needs to take a risk now and then

Good point on the risk 72 would be nice to see bit more chance taking but for that I would argue needs the movement ahead of him.
His movement off the ball is what’s caught my eye always shows and finds space.

I am not watching the same games then because I have seen him make several good passes into dangerous areas this season.

I am not watching the same games then No, you are watching the same games that many are now beginning to see, the more they understand his position, strengths, and the specific role he plays.

Others saw bleeding Ashley Cole 🤣😂

Think he’s a far better player this time round. Still frustrates me with the pointless passing for passings sake and doesn’t mind giving it away from time to time. What’s frustrating is he clearly has the quality, that cross for dykes was outrageous and if tarrabt had done that plenty would be creaming over it. Also played a lovely chip into the box at the weekend which created a good chance. Would just like to see him be a bit braver going forward, there’s times he looks cock on to shoot and instead plays a sideways ball. That goes for a lot of our players tbf
